The feast of Carcare's patron, with a fireworks display on the Bormida river and Val Bormida tradition
June 24th is a date marked in red on the calendar of Carcare, a center in the Bormida Valley in the province of Savona: it is the day of Saint John the Baptist, the town's patron saint. The patronal feast has always been one of the unmissable events of the Val Bormida summer and combines the religious dimension with the popular one, involving the entire community.
The most anticipated moment is the fireworks display that lights up the banks of the Bormida river. In recent years, the Municipality has entrusted specialized companies with the creation of true pyromusical shows, with fireworks synchronized to music, capable of attracting audiences from all over the valley. The traditional funfair is set up in Piazza Caravadossi, while along the riverbanks, the custom of the Saint John's bonfires, an ancient ritual of the solstice night, is renewed.
Alongside the spectacular moments, the day retains its devotional heart with celebrations in honor of the saint. The feast of Saint John in Carcare is an opportunity to come together, rediscover the traditions of the Bormida Valley, and experience the town center in a festive atmosphere that marks the full beginning of summer.
As per tradition, Carcare's patronal feast focuses on June 24th, with services in honor of Saint John the Baptist and a rich array of popular events. The detailed program, including times for the ceremonies and the pyromusical show, is usually published by the Municipality in the weeks prior.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Municipality of Carcare in the weeks preceding the feast. The traditional schedule includes:
