Saint James the Great Apostle is the patron saint of San Giacomo degli Schiavoni, a small municipality in lower Molise in the province of Campobasso. The very name of the village recalls the ancient Schiavone communities (of Slavic origin) that populated this part of Molise. The patronal feast, celebrated in August, is the most cherished moment of the year for the community.
Two days of celebration
The festivities are spread over two days: the feast of Saint James the Apostle and that of Saint Anthony of Padua, greatly venerated in lower Molise. The religious heart of the feast is the Parish Church of the Most Holy Rosary, from which the procession departs, winding through the village streets accompanied by the faithful.
Music, community, and tradition
Alongside the religious rites, the program offers music, shows, and entertainment that liven up the village. The organization is managed by the New Committee for the Feast of Saint James of Schiavoni, which renews this event of faith and community gathering for the inhabitants and for those who return to the village during the summer each year.
