About Marino Feast

Every spring, the hamlet of Marino del Tronto, on the outskirts of Ascoli Piceno, gathers around its patron saint, Saint Anthony Abbot, for a weekend of faith, music, and conviviality. Featuring a procession, a preparatory triduum, evening concerts, a food stand, fireworks, and the popular Marino Run, it's one of those typical Marche village festivals where the community comes together and welcomes visitors. A cherished event that blends religious tradition with popular entertainment.

A Village Festival in the Heart of Piceno

The Patronal Feast of Saint Anthony Abbot is the most anticipated event of the year for Marino del Tronto, a small and lively hamlet within the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno, in southern Marche. Known to all as the Festa del Marino, it enlivens the village for several days around a spring weekend, transforming the streets around the parish church into a succession of religious celebrations, musical evenings, and shared moments of festivity.

Between Sacred and Profane

As is tradition for Italian patronal feasts, the program runs on two parallel tracks. There is the religious program, with the preparatory triduum, Holy Masses, the Solemn Mass, and especially the procession with the statue of the saint through the village streets, accompanied by the town band. And there is the civil and recreational program, which fills the evenings with concerts, children's shows, quiz games, a lottery, and the unmissable food stand where you can taste Ascoli cuisine in good company.

Saint Anthony Abbot, Patron of Animals

Saint Anthony Abbot, an Egyptian hermit from the 3rd-4th century, has been one of the most beloved saints in Italian peasant tradition for centuries: protector of domestic animals, livestock, and fire. His figure is deeply rooted in Ascoli Piceno, with the blessing of bread and animals and a devotion that spans generations. In Marino del Tronto, the feast in his honor preserves this spirit of rural community intact, where faith becomes an occasion for meeting and joy.

The Marino Run and Sports

In recent years, the celebrations have intertwined with the Marino Run, a running race organized by Atletica Team Piceno that brings hundreds of runners to the hamlet's streets with a competitive 8-kilometer race and a non-competitive fit walking event. Sport thus becomes an integral part of the festival, in a day of great participation that combines devotion, tradition, and outdoor life.

Why It's Worth Visiting

  • Experience an authentic Marche village festival, far from the main tourist circuits
  • Witness the procession and celebrations in honor of the patron saint
  • Savor the dishes from the traditional Piceno food stand
  • Participate in or cheer at the Marino Run
  • Enjoy evenings filled with live music, a lottery, and fireworks

Marino del Tronto is located just a few minutes from the historic center of Ascoli Piceno, in the Province of Ascoli Piceno: an ideal stop for those who want to discover the most genuine and popular face of the Marche region.
