Paninfesta - Volano Festival

A Community Festival along the Po di Volano

The Volano Festival is the grand popular festival of Massa Fiscaglia, a hamlet of the municipality of Fiscaglia, in the province of Ferrara (Emilia-Romagna). For five days, the historic center and the picturesque dock along the Po di Volano transform into a stage of flavors, music, and traditions, attracting residents and visitors from all over the Ferrara lowlands.

Massa Fiscaglia was formed by the merger in 2014 of the municipalities of Massa Fiscaglia, Migliarino, and Migliaro. This is why events like the Volano Festival hold particular value, as they strengthen the community spirit of a territory characterized by water, embankments, and ancient waterways typical of the Po Delta.

The Paninfesta and Ferrara Bread

The core identity of the event is the Paninfesta, the festival dedicated to Ferrara bread and, in particular, to the coppia ferrarese, the famous four-horned bread that is one of the gastronomic symbols of the province of Ferrara. In the spaces of the Vittoria Theater, there are meetings with bread professionals, workshops for children, and photographic exhibitions dedicated to this local traditional product. It is a tribute to an ancient craft and a food that tells the agricultural history of the region.

Gastronomy, Shows, and Entertainment

The food stall is the true engine of the festival: every evening, from 6:00 PM, it offers dishes from Ferrara and traditional Po Valley cuisine, in a convivial atmosphere that lasts late into the night. Alongside good food, the program includes:

• Rides and attractions for children and young people, along the streets and at the dock;
• Live shows and music, with dancing evenings and moments dedicated to the greatest hits of the 80s;
• Dance performances and parades involving local associations;
• Traditional tombola (bingo) games, an unmissable and highly popular part of the festival.

A Historic Local Event

The Volano Festival and the Paninfesta are long-standing events: as early as 2017, the Paninfesta celebrated its fourteenth edition, a sign of an event rooted in the life of the town for over twenty years. Meticulously organized by the Pro Loco Massa Fiscaglia, the festival is now one of the most anticipated events in the summer calendar of the province of Ferrara, successfully combining gastronomy, folklore, and social interaction in one of the most characteristic hamlets of the Po Delta.
