A team-based challenge for the youth of Bresimo, Cis, Livo, and Rumo in the Val di Non
The Palio dei Comuni is a popular event that annually pits the youth of four municipalities in the upper Val di Non, in Trentino-Alto Adige, against one another: Bresimo, Cis, Livo, and Rumo. Born from the collaboration between the respective Pro Loco associations, the event has become a staple of the valley's summer, drawing entire communities together for a day of play and celebration.
The heart of the event is a series of team competitions: skill tests, group games, relays, and lighthearted challenges designed to involve young people from the different villages. Each municipality fields its own team, competing for the title in a spirit of healthy rivalry where participation matters more than the final result. It is a way to strengthen bonds between small, distinct mountain communities, each with its own unique identity.
The event location rotates among the organizing municipalities. Recent editions have taken place at the Marcena sports field, a hamlet in the municipality of Rumo, which becomes the meeting point for the entire valley for the day. Alongside the competitions, there are plenty of social moments, offering the chance to spend a day outdoors together, enjoying sports, music, and community.
The Palio dei Comuni is a prime example of how Trentino's Pro Loco associations keep village life vibrant by highlighting the involvement of the younger generation. In a valley like Val di Non—famous for its apple orchards, castles, and alpine landscapes—this festival represents an authentic moment of gathering, far from the major tourist circuits and close to the sense of belonging found in the small communities of Cis and its neighboring towns.
The event is traditionally held in late spring or early summer, between the end of June and the beginning of July. To find the updated dates and location, it is best to follow the channels of the Pro Loco associations of Bresimo, Cis, Livo, and Rumo.
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Marcena sports field in the municipality of Rumo hosted a new edition of the Palio dei Comuni, the event that annually involves the youth of the Bresimo, Cis, Livo, and Rumo communities in a day dedicated to games, participation, and team spirit.
