Sicily's most popular rainbow parade
Palermo Pride is the annual event that transforms the streets of Palermo's city center into a massive parade for LGBTQIA+ rights every June. Since its inception in 2010, it has grown into the most attended political demonstration in the Sicilian capital, attracting thousands of people from all over Sicily and the rest of Italy. Floats, rainbow flags, slogans, and music accompany a route that winds through the heart of the city to the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, a regenerated space that hosts the main stage and evening festivities.
Beyond the celebration and colors lies a clear message: Palermo Pride is, first and foremost, a political march. Each edition features a motto that gives voice to current issuesโfrom civil rights and rainbow families to inclusion and social justice. The event is promoted by the Coordinamento Palermo Pride, which brings together dozens of local associations, including Arcigay Palermoโone of Italy's oldest organizations for LGBTQIA+ rightsโand Famiglie Arcobaleno.
The parade starts in the city center at the intersection of via Roma and via Vittorio Emanuele, winding through some of the capital's most iconic streets and squares: via Cavour, piazza Verdi in front of the Teatro Massimo, piazza San Francesco di Paola, piazza Amendola, and via Dante. It is a parade that unites the historic center with the surrounding neighborhoods, with tens of thousands of people marching behind the associations' and collectives' floats.
The final destination is one of Palermo's cultural landmarks: the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, a former factory turned creative hub. From the evening onwards, the stage comes alive with concerts, DJ sets, and performances, while parties continue late into the night at various venues across the city. It is the most festive moment of a day that blends advocacy, community, and fun.
Palermo Pride is now a staple of the Sicilian capital's summer calendar and a key reference point for the entire LGBTQIA+ community on the island. It is an event that brings the entire city to the streets and, year after year, confirms Palermo as one of Italy's capitals of rights.
The 2026 edition of Palermo Pride, under the motto "Let's free desire!", brought thousands of people to the streets on Saturday, June 20. The parade, featuring six floats and support vehicles from various associations, crossed the historic center to the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa, where the stage lit up with music and performances in the evening. A week of pre-Pride events in the neighborhoods preceded the grand parade.
A week of events throughout Palermo's neighborhoods: meetings, debates, drag shows, markets, presentations, readings, and community aperitifs, featuring the "Pride ad alta voce" initiative.
