The LGBTQIA+ pride parade spanning the twin towns of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini
Paesello Pride is an event that transforms the streets of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini—two small neighboring towns in the province of Agrigento—into a river of color and advocacy every summer. It is the only Pride event in the province of Agrigento and one of the very few in Italy to be born not in a major city, but in the heart of inland villages, where the LGBTQIA+ community often grows up without spaces for recognition or safe havens.
The event is promoted by Cori the project, an association that has built a cultural, social, and political path in a territory far from large urban centers over the last few years. The name itself, "Paesello" (small village), reclaims the identity of the small town with irony and pride: here, the fight against homotransphobia happens through the intimacy of daily relationships, in a community where Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini together count fewer than 15,000 inhabitants.
The heart of Paesello Pride is the parade, which starts at Piazzale Camilleri in Cammarata and winds through the historic centers of both towns until it reaches Piazza Purrello in San Giovanni Gemini, where the day concludes with concerts, shows, and parties. The parade symbolically unites the two neighboring towns, crossing their alleys, squares, and stairways.
The first edition was held on August 10, 2024, marking the first-ever Pride in the province of Agrigento. The second edition, on August 9, 2025, confirmed the event's deep roots in the territory, becoming part of the national Onda Pride calendar promoted by Arcigay. Today, Paesello Pride is one of the strongest symbols of queer visibility in inland Sicily, within the region, and well beyond the borders of the Agrigento area.
Paesello Pride 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, August 8, 2026, and will once again cross the streets of Cammarata and San Giovanni Gemini, in the hinterland of the province of Agrigento. The theme of this edition is "Qui queer": an invitation to reclaim queer identity right in the places where one is born and raised, overturning the idea that freedom can only be found elsewhere.
As in previous editions, the day will be built around the parade uniting the two towns and an evening party with music and shows. The detailed program (times, route, and guests) will be communicated by the organization, the association Cori the project, on their channels in the days leading up to the event.
The parade starts at Piazzale Camilleri in Cammarata (AG) and ends at Piazza Purrello in San Giovanni Gemini (AG), in western-central Sicily, in the hinterland of the province of Agrigento.
By car: the two towns can be reached via the SS189 Palermo–Agrigento road, taking the Cammarata–San Giovanni Gemini exit. The reference train station is Cammarata–San Giovanni Gemini on the Palermo–Agrigento line. The nearest airports are Palermo Punta Raisi and Catania Fontanarossa.
Participation in the parade and events is free and open to everyone.
