The Carnival party in the square in Ozzano dell'Emilia, with masks, parades, and fun for families
The Ozzano Carnival is the most anticipated Carnival event in Ozzano dell'Emilia, a municipality in the metropolitan city of Bologna in Emilia-Romagna. Every year, in the heart of winter, Piazza Allende transforms into the stage for a grand masked celebration that attracts families and children from all over the region. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Ozzano dell'Emilia APS with the patronage of the Municipality, and it is completely free.
The program focuses on the afternoon and offers a series of activities designed especially for children. It starts with face painting, the rides of the funfair, attractions, and stalls filling the square with typical Carnival sweets. During the afternoon, a short masked parade takes place, the central moment of the day, followed by the traditional Contest for the Most Beautiful and Original Mask.
The contest is the heart of the Ozzano celebration and is open to everyone: individuals, families, associations, and groups of friends can participate for free, unleashing their imagination with increasingly elaborate and creative costumes. Registration is free and can be done by contacting the Pro Loco directly. It is the spontaneous participation of the citizens, with their costumes, that makes the atmosphere of this village event unique.
The Ozzano Carnival has its roots in the seventies: born as a small village festival, it has grown edition after edition to become a fixed event on the Ozzano dell'Emilia calendar. The Pro Loco, active in the area for decades, manages its organization thanks to the commitment and passion of volunteers, keeping alive one of the most cherished traditions of the Ozzano community.
The 49th edition of the Ozzano Carnival was held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 2:00 PM, in Piazza Allende in Ozzano dell'Emilia. The organization was handled by the Pro Loco Ozzano dell'Emilia APS with the patronage of the Municipality.
The afternoon featured activities for children, including face painting, a funfair, rides, attractions, and stalls. The highlight was the short masked parade, followed by the Contest for the Most Beautiful and Original Mask, open for free to individuals, families, associations, and groups of friends. Admission to the event was free.
Ozzano dell'Emilia is located along the Via Emilia, a few kilometers from Bologna. By car, it can be reached from the SS9 Via Emilia or from the A14 motorway (Bologna San Lazzaro exit). By train, Ozzano dell'Emilia station is served by the Bologna-Rimini regional line; Piazza Allende is within walking distance from the station.
The festival takes place in the afternoon, with activities starting at 2:00 PM. Admission is free. The mask contest is free and open to all upon registration via email to the Pro Loco ([email protected]).
As this is an outdoor event, it is advisable to check the weather conditions: the event may be canceled in case of bad weather. It is the ideal day for costumes and masks for families with children.
