The electronic music open-air festival inside the Fortezza Fortress in South Tyrol
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The OVERHEAD Takeover Music Festival is one of the most distinctive electronic music events in South Tyrol. Its uniqueness stems from its location: the festival takes place inside the Fortezza Fortress (Festung Franzensfeste), the largest Habsburg fortification in South Tyrol, built starting in 1833 in the municipality of Fortezza/Franzensfeste, in the province of Bolzano. The granite walls, courtyards, and walkways of the complex—which spans tens of thousands of square meters along the Isarco Valley—become a massive, dramatic backdrop for live music and DJ sets for one night.
The OVERHEAD format is that of a true multi-stage open-air: the most recent edition featured three stages and over twenty artists, with a selection of international headliners joined by DJs and producers from the local and national scene. The musical program ranges from tech house and EDM to hip-hop and urban sounds, offering the audience different atmospheres within the same fortress. The event runs from late afternoon until deep into the night, with food areas and spaces dedicated to the attendee experience distributed throughout the bastions.
Over the years, OVERHEAD has grown to become one of the key events of the South Tyrolean clubbing summer. The organizers have boasted a long string of sold-out editions, with the festival now reaching its seventh chapter. The combination of the fortress's scenic power and a curated electronic music line-up has made the event a magnet for audiences from all over South Tyrol and neighboring regions.
The municipality of Fortezza/Franzensfeste is located at a strategic point in the Isarco Valley, where transport routes to the Brenner Pass and the Pusteria Valley converge. The monumental 19th-century fort, now home to exhibitions and cultural projects, is the town's landmark and the ideal setting for a festival that blends historical heritage with contemporary musical culture, fully embracing the bilingual spirit of the Bolzano province in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
