About Lamateatro Festival

Every September, the Lama Teatro Festival transforms the Parco Lama Belvedere in Monopoli into an open-air stage. For three days, amidst the olive trees and Mediterranean scrub of this karst ravine, the park comes alive with theatrical performances, concerts, contemporary circus acts, children's workshops, art installations, podcasts, and DJ sets. Promoted by the Municipality of Monopoli and directed by the Allegra Brigata association, this festival is designed for all ages, offering mostly free admission and a unique blend of nature and live art in the heart of Puglia.

A festival between nature and live performance

The Lama Teatro Festival (also known as Lamateatro Festival) is one of the most original cultural events of the summer in Monopoli, located in the Metropolitan City of Bari, Puglia. Each September, the festival takes over Parco Lama Belvedere, a green space carved out of one of the characteristic karst ravines that define the Apulian landscape: ancient furrows shaped by rainwater, now acting as green lungs filled with olive trees, dry-stone walls, and Mediterranean vegetation. In this natural setting, theatre, music, and circus arts find an open-air home.

Three days for all ages

The festival's format combines evening shows with activities spread throughout the day. The program alternates between prose and auteur theatre, concerts and poetry readings, contemporary circus performances, and acts with a strong focus on families. There is no shortage of free workshops for children, ranging from juggling and balancing to acrobatics. Surrounding the performances is a rich array of podcasts, talks, exhibitions, and art installations, alongside a food area with food trucks, a relaxation zone, exhibition stands, and afternoons animated by DJ and live sets.

A project by the Municipality of Monopoli

The Lama Teatro Festival is promoted by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Monopoli and curated by the theatrical cultural association Allegra Brigata. Established in 2021, it has grown over the years into a highly anticipated fixture on the city's cultural calendar, successfully showcasing a public space like Parco Lama Belvedere and introducing a broad, diverse audience to theatre and the performing arts.

Free entry and community spirit

One of the festival's hallmarks is its accessibility: most events are free to attend, while some evening theatre shows require a ticket. This approach makes the festival a gathering point for the entire Monopoli community and the many visitors who flock to the Apulian Adriatic coast at the end of summer. Between a stroll through the historic centre overlooking the sea and an evening in the greenery of the ravine, the Lama Teatro Festival tells a story of a different, sustainable way to experience live performance.

Where it takes place

Activities are concentrated in Parco Lama Belvedere, along Via Verdi in Monopoli. The park is easily accessible from the city centre and offers shaded, well-equipped spaces that, for the duration of the festival, are transformed into stages, workshop areas, and refreshment points immersed in nature.
