Cinema and TV series under the stars of San Valentino Torio
The Outdoor Film Festival, known to all by its acronym OFF, takes place every year at the beginning of July in San Valentino Torio, a small town in the province of Salerno, Campania, on the edge of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area. The heart of the event is the "Giuseppe Corazziere" Villa Comunale Arena, which for four evenings turns into an open-air cinema with a giant screen, stage, and seating area, while the entrance avenue becomes a true red carpet.
The festival was founded in 2023 by a group of young people from the Associazione Culturale Soffermiamoci ETS, established in November 2021 under the presidency of Giuliano Squitieri, who now serves as the festival's artistic director. The initial idea was both simple and ambitious: to bring major cinema and TV series to a town of just a few thousand inhabitants, giving the local youth a new perspective on their own town.
The OFF has established itself as one of the few Italian events to give equal weight to cinema and television seriality, with a program held entirely outdoors. Each edition features:
The most recognizable feature of the OFF is its atmosphere: no closed theaters or ticket offices, but an entire town coming to life. Stars arrive along Viale Unità d'Italia, meet the public, sign autographs, and then take the stage at the Arena to share their stories. Over the course of the first four editions, the event has attracted tens of thousands of attendees, with spectators arriving from all over Campania and beyond, and has hosted over one hundred Italian and international artists.
All events are free and open to the public, subject to availability in the Arena. The festival relies on the work of volunteers from the Soffermiamoci association, the support of the San Valentino Torio Municipal Administration, and the contribution of entities such as the Fondazione Banco di Napoli and the Fondazione Carisal, as well as private sponsors.
The festival also features collateral activities: lounge areas, after-parties, food stands set up in the park, and the daytime "Ciak-OFF" program with workshops and training sessions. For the Salerno region, the OFF has become a fixed summer appointment, capable of putting San Valentino Torio on the map far beyond the borders of the Agro.
The festival is traditionally held in the first week of July, over four consecutive days from Thursday to Sunday. The evenings begin at sunset, when the heat of the plains subsides, and continue late into the night with the final awards ceremony on the last day.
From July 2 to 5, 2026, San Valentino Torio hosted the fourth edition of the Outdoor Film Festival, directed by Giuliano Squitieri and organized by the Associazione Culturale Soffermiamoci with the support of the Municipality, the Fondazione Banco di Napoli, and the Fondazione Carisal. The theme chosen this year, "Life is happening now", invited the audience to reflect on the value of the present.
Each evening followed the same format: red carpet at 7:00 PM along Viale Unità d'Italia and talks on the Main Stage at 9:00 PM in the Villa Comunale Arena, with free admission. In the morning and afternoon, the training activities of the "Ciak-OFF" program took place, including dubbing masterclasses coordinated by Mirko Cannella.
Four feature films and six short films participated in the competition, evaluated by two technical juries and the "Jur-OFF" youth jury, open to young people aged 17 to 35 selected by application. The event concluded with approximately 20,000 spectators over four days and the announcement of its return in 2027.
Feature films: Afrodite by Stefano Lorenzi, Mille Lune by Carina Bini, My Turn by Ge Zhang, The Origin of the World by Rossella Inglese.
Short films: Coyotes by Said Zagha, Marinella by Giuseppe Arena, Final Scene by Diego Kompel, Sharing is Caring by Vincenzo Mauro, Le faremo sapere by Beppe Tufarulo, Camera con Vista by Mario Porfito.
By car: Take the Nocera–Pagani or Sarno exit on the A30 Caserta–Salerno motorway; from there, you can reach San Valentino Torio in a few minutes by following signs for the town center. Free parking is available on the streets around the Villa Comunale, but it is advisable to arrive well in advance on festival evenings.
By train: The most convenient stations are Sarno and Nocera Inferiore, both connected to Naples and Salerno; the final leg of the journey is completed by bus or taxi.
By plane: Naples-Capodichino Airport is about 40 km away, and Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport is about 30 km away.
Free admission to all events, no booking required: red carpet from 7:00 PM, talks on the Main Stage from 9:00 PM in the Villa Comunale Arena. Seating is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
