A local market featuring regional products and seasonal cherries in the Ottavia district of North Rome
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Ottavia – Lucchina Cherry Festival is one of those events that captures the authentic, non-touristy side of Rome: the world of local neighborhoods, citizens' committees, and public squares that, for a day, become the community's living room. The event takes place on Via Cesira Fiori, in the area fronting the Gulliver shopping center in the Lucchina district, just a stone's throw from Ottavia, in Municipality XIV of the City of Rome, in the Province of Rome and the Lazio Region.
The initiative is promoted by the "Lucchina e Ottavia" Cultural Association, a highly active local group that has spent years working to enhance the neighborhood, preserve collective memory, and encourage resident participation in local life.
The heart of the event is the market of regional products, set up along the dedicated pedestrian area. Visitors can stroll between stalls, meet producers, and taste specialties from the Lazio region: cheeses, preserves, traditional pastries, baked goods, and, of course, the cherries that give the festival its name and reach their seasonal peak in early June.
Cherries are deeply linked to the Roman countryside and the areas of the Prenestini Mountains and Sabina, where their cultivation is historically widespread. Bringing them to a northern suburb also serves to reconnect the city with its often-overlooked agricultural hinterland.
Alongside the market stalls, you will find the association's information booth, a meeting point where citizens can learn about cultural activities in the area, sign up for initiatives, and propose new ideas.
One of the most appreciated elements of recent editions is the photo exhibition dedicated to Ottavia: residents are invited to bring and share photographs and images of the neighborhood, creating a collective narrative made of faces, streets, historic shops, and everyday moments. It is a simple and effective way to celebrate the memory and identity of an area that grew rapidly in the post-war period.
The festival's formula is intentionally simple: free admission, daytime hours, open-air spaces, and a relaxed pace that makes it suitable for families with children and the neighborhood's elderly residents. There are no massive stages or big-name headliners: the value lies in the sense of proximity, the pleasure of meeting neighbors, and the quality of the products on offer.
For those arriving from outside the area, the festival is also a great excuse to discover a part of Rome rarely included in tourist itineraries, yet rich in recent history and close to green areas like the Pineto Park and the Insugherata Nature Reserve.
The event is traditionally held on the first weekend of June, for a single day, usually on a Saturday. The most recent documented edition took place on Saturday, June 7, 2025. For updated dates, it is best to follow the channels of the organizing association and the local North Rome press, which announces the event a few weeks in advance.
As of our last update, no official source has announced the 2026 edition of the Ottavia – Lucchina Cherry Festival. The calendar of Lazio festivals for June 2026 does not list the event, and the organizing association's channels have not released a poster or press release.
This does not necessarily mean the festival will not take place: it is a neighborhood event promoted by volunteers, and communication often happens close to the date through informal channels. We recommend checking directly with the "Lucchina e Ottavia" Cultural Association or following the local North Rome press.
Via Cesira Fiori, near the Gulliver shopping center, Lucchina – Ottavia area, 00135 Rome (Municipality XIV).
By train: The Roma Ottavia railway station, on the FL3 Roma Ostiense – Cesano – Viterbo line, is just a few minutes from the festival area. It is the most convenient option for those arriving from the city center.
By bus: The area is served by ATAC urban lines connecting Ottavia and Lucchina with Cornelia (Metro Line A) and Monte Mario.
By car: Reachable from the Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA), take the Cassia bis / Ottavia exit, then follow Via della Lucchina. During the festival, parking near Via Cesira Fiori may be limited; it is advisable to park in adjacent streets.
Admission to the festival and the market is free. You only pay for what you purchase or taste at the producers' stalls.
This is an open-air daytime event: a hat and water are useful, as the Roman sun can be quite strong in June. Those wishing to participate in the photo exhibition can bring prints or images of the neighborhood to share with the association.
