The festival of cross-cultural music arrives in the Pratomagno mountains and along the Ciuffenna river
OrienteOccidente is one of Tuscany's longest-running and most distinctive music festivals, promoted by the record label and collective Materiali Sonori, a historic music enterprise founded in San Giovanni Valdarno. Defined as "the festival of cross-cultural music," it weaves together world music, singer-songwriter performances, historical memory, and living traditions, bringing live music to town squares, social clubs, vineyards, and natural settings throughout the Arno valley, from Florence to Arezzo.
The 22nd edition, themed "Migrants, Cultures, and Music," takes place between July 4 and August 5, 2026 (with some spring previews) and involves numerous municipalities in the Valdarno area, including San Giovanni Valdarno, Cavriglia, Terranuova Bracciolini, Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Bucine, Rignano sull'Arno, and Loro Ciuffenna.
In the municipality of Loro Ciuffenna, a village perched on the slopes of the Pratomagno in the province of Arezzo, the festival offers two free-entry evenings that have become a highly anticipated summer tradition.
The formula of OrienteOccidente is that of a widespread and traveling festival: every night the music moves to a different town or setting, highlighting villages, hamlets, and corners of the Valdarno territory that rarely host large-scale events. The project, conceived by Giampiero Bigazzi and co-curated by Pierfrancesco Bigazzi, is supported by the Tuscany Region and sponsored by the Province of Arezzo and the Metropolitan City of Florence.
For the audience, the Loro Ciuffenna stops are an opportunity to experience singer-songwriter music and world sounds in intimate, natural settingsโfrom the local social club to the riverbanksโin the informal and participatory atmosphere that is the hallmark of the entire festival.
The 2026 edition of OrienteOccidente brings two events of its traveling Valdarno festival to Loro Ciuffenna, both with free admission. The local stops confirm the dual spirit of the festival: world music and singer-songwriter performances, set in the iconic locations of the Pratomagno and the Ciuffenna stream.
Both evenings are part of the overall program of the 22nd edition of OrienteOccidente (July 4 โ August 5, 2026), which visits numerous municipalities in the Valdarno area. Events take place even in case of rain.
Loro Ciuffenna can be reached by car from the Valdarno exit of the A1 motorway, continuing towards the Pratomagno. The nearest train station is Montevarchi-Terranuova on the Florence-Arezzo line, with connections by bus or car.
Circolo ARCI Pratomagno (Modine-Gorgiti hamlet) and Massette sul Ciuffenna, along the Ciuffenna stream near the town center.
The Loro Ciuffenna stops are free to attend. Events will take place even in case of rain. Concerts generally start at 9:30 PM (unless otherwise indicated).
