About OrienteOccidente

OrienteOccidente is a traveling world music and singer-songwriter festival promoted by Materiali Sonori that traverses the Valdarno area of Arezzo and Florence every summer. In Loro Ciuffenna, in the province of Arezzo, the 22nd edition features two free events: a concert by Whisky Trail at the Circolo ARCI Pratomagno in Modine-Gorgiti and the famous "River Concert" at the Massette on the Ciuffenna river, featuring Bobo Rondelli. Music, memory, and traditions in motion in the evocative settings of the Tuscan Pratomagno.

OrienteOccidente: music that creates culture in the heart of Valdarno

OrienteOccidente is one of Tuscany's longest-running and most distinctive music festivals, promoted by the record label and collective Materiali Sonori, a historic music enterprise founded in San Giovanni Valdarno. Defined as "the festival of cross-cultural music," it weaves together world music, singer-songwriter performances, historical memory, and living traditions, bringing live music to town squares, social clubs, vineyards, and natural settings throughout the Arno valley, from Florence to Arezzo.

The 22nd edition, themed "Migrants, Cultures, and Music," takes place between July 4 and August 5, 2026 (with some spring previews) and involves numerous municipalities in the Valdarno area, including San Giovanni Valdarno, Cavriglia, Terranuova Bracciolini, Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Bucine, Rignano sull'Arno, and Loro Ciuffenna.

The Loro Ciuffenna stops

In the municipality of Loro Ciuffenna, a village perched on the slopes of the Pratomagno in the province of Arezzo, the festival offers two free-entry evenings that have become a highly anticipated summer tradition.

  • July 5 โ€“ "Ireland in Pratomagno" with Whisky Trail, at the Circolo ARCI Pratomagno in the hamlet of Modine-Gorgiti: an evening dedicated to Celtic and Irish music with one of Italy's most renowned ensembles in the genre.
  • August 4 โ€“ "River Concert" with Bobo Rondelli, at the Massette on the Ciuffenna: the most evocative concert of the local series, set along the Ciuffenna stream, featuring the Livorno-born singer-songwriter Bobo Rondelli.

A traveling and widespread festival

The formula of OrienteOccidente is that of a widespread and traveling festival: every night the music moves to a different town or setting, highlighting villages, hamlets, and corners of the Valdarno territory that rarely host large-scale events. The project, conceived by Giampiero Bigazzi and co-curated by Pierfrancesco Bigazzi, is supported by the Tuscany Region and sponsored by the Province of Arezzo and the Metropolitan City of Florence.

For the audience, the Loro Ciuffenna stops are an opportunity to experience singer-songwriter music and world sounds in intimate, natural settingsโ€”from the local social club to the riverbanksโ€”in the informal and participatory atmosphere that is the hallmark of the entire festival.

OrienteOccidente โ€” edition 2026

The 22nd edition of OrienteOccidente, themed "Migrants, Cultures, and Music," stops in Loro Ciuffenna with two free evenings: July 5 with Whisky Trail at the Circolo ARCI Pratomagno in Modine-Gorgiti and August 4 with the "River Concert" featuring Bobo Rondelli at the Massette on the Ciuffenna.

The 2026 edition of OrienteOccidente brings two events of its traveling Valdarno festival to Loro Ciuffenna, both with free admission. The local stops confirm the dual spirit of the festival: world music and singer-songwriter performances, set in the iconic locations of the Pratomagno and the Ciuffenna stream.
