About Oratory Carnival

The Oratory Carnival is the winter festival that fills the small village of Villaromagnano, in the province of Alessandria, with confetti and costumes. Organized by the Radix Group of the San Michele Arcangelo Parish, it is a day designed for children, teenagers, and adults, featuring games, workshops, a piñata, a costume parade, and a snack with traditional fritters. A simple, genuine village festival that puts the community and its oratory at the heart of the event.

The Carnival at the Villaromagnano oratory

In the heart of winter, when Carnival season reaches its peak, the small town of Villaromagnano, in the province of Alessandria, celebrates its most cheerful event: the Oratory Carnival. The festival takes place within the grounds of the oratory and the rectory of the San Michele Arcangelo Parish, overlooking Piazza San Michele. It is organized by the Radix Group, a team of youth leaders dedicated to revitalizing this community gathering space.

A party for all ages

The beauty of this Carnival is that it is for everyone: the invitation is open to children, teenagers, and adults, who come together for an afternoon of fun. The program focuses on the great classics of the Italian Carnival tradition, revisited with the convivial spirit of a village oratory.

  • Games and workshops for children and families
  • Piñata breaking, an essential ritual of every Carnival
  • Costume parade and awards for the best costume
  • Performances and entertainment to liven up the square
  • Snack time with fritters and traditional Carnival sweets

The oratory at the heart of the community

The Oratory Carnival is much more than just a party: it is a way to strengthen the bonds of this small village in the Tortona area and to keep the oratory alive as a place for gathering. The Radix Group has launched various initiatives around this space, reflecting a project aimed at involving new generations and the entire Villaromagnano community.

The San Michele Arcangelo Parish, with its 18th-century Baroque-style church, serves as the religious and social landmark of the town. Hosting the Carnival here means blending popular festivities with the parish community, in full continuity with the traditions of Eastern Piedmont.

Why attend

Those looking for an authentic Carnival, far from the media-heavy parades and closer to real village life, will find a festival in Villaromagnano filled with smiles, colorful costumes, and the scent of fritters. It is the perfect opportunity to discover a quiet corner of the province of Alessandria and experience the most playful festival of the year in the genuine spirit of the oratory.
