A stroll through art, nature, and the secret gardens of the Pearl of the Nebrodi
Open Gardens Day is a cultural and botanical event held in Sinagra, a charming village in the province of Messina nestled in the heart of the Nebrodi Park and known as the "Pearl of the Nebrodi." Organized by the Pro Loco Sinagra Cento Fontane in collaboration with UNPLI, the event opens the town's private gardens to the public, turning the streets and courtyards of the historic center into a widespread itinerary of flowers, fragrances, and creativity.
The heart of the event is a pleasant walk that starts from Piazza San Teodoro and winds through the most colorful and fragrant spots of the village, discovering hidden green corners and panoramic views of the Nebrodi mountains. In each garden, visitors meet artists, musicians, actors, and poets who accompany the journey with readings, folk songs, and small installations, offering moments of surprise and wonder.
Spaces that have welcomed the public in recent editions include the Fairy Garden, the Romantic Garden, the Celestial Garden, and the Garden of Memories, passionately tended by local families and opened for the occasion as symbols of a community that makes gardening a hallmark of its identity.
Sinagra is recognized as a "Floral Village" (Comune Fiorito) and makes the care of green spaces and urban decor a distinctive trait. Open Gardens Day was born from this very vocation: to enhance the beauty of domestic gardens, the gardening tradition, and the deep bond between the inhabitants and the Nebrodi landscape. The initiative is supported by other Pro Loco activities, such as gardening courses, as part of a project to promote the region's culture and tourism.
The event is free and open to families, botany enthusiasts, tourists, and the curious. It is the ideal opportunity to experience the charm of a Sicilian inland village far from mass tourism circuits, immersed in flowers, art, and hospitality. Open Gardens Day has now established itself as one of the most anticipated spring-summer events in Sinagra, in the municipality of the same name in the Sicily Region.
The fourth edition of Open Gardens Day, titled "Beauty and Art in Sinagra – An Enchantment Among Flowers," was held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with a meeting point at 9:00 AM in Piazza San Teodoro. The walk crossed the most colorful and fragrant places of the Pearl of the Nebrodi.
Among the gardens open to the public: the Fairy Garden of Francesca Mola, the Romantic Garden of Caterina Pullella, the Celestial Garden of Maria and Giuseppe Saitta, and the Garden of Memories of sisters Maria and Vincenza Mola. The day was animated by readings from poets Maria Giglia and Lina Santangelo and folk songs led by Rosina Coci. The edition, dedicated to the theme of nature and well-being, was curated by the Pro Loco presided over by Vincenza Mola.
