Contemporary theatre review at the Francesco Rosaspina Theatre in Montescudo
Oltremisura is the historic theatre review that enlivens the Francesco Rosaspina Theatre in Montescudo, in the Municipality of Montescudo-Monte Colombo, in the province of Rimini, every winter. Organised by the L'Attoscuro APS Association in collaboration with the Municipality, the Department of Culture and Entertainment, and the Pro Loco of Montescudo, the event has established itself as a benchmark for experimental theatre in the Valconca and the entire Emilia-Romagna region.
The review takes place in a space of rare charm. The Rosaspina Theatre, named after the famous engraver Francesco Rosaspina born in Montescudo in 1762, retains the typical structure of an Italian-style theatre: a horseshoe-shaped hall with a stalls area, a tier of boxes, and a gallery. Destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt according to the original design, becoming today a small gem that makes the spectator's experience even more intimate.
The Oltremisura programme is distinguished by its careful and bold curation, alternating major names on the contemporary scene with emerging companies and projects of civic theatre. The events, scheduled on Sundays, range from authorial prose to narrative theatre, from staged poetry to theatrical concerts, and even open-air sound walks that conclude the season.
In addition to the quality of the artistic offering, Oltremisura represents a cultural outpost for a hilly area, capable of attracting a loyal audience and enhancing the historical heritage of Montescudo-Monte Colombo. The formula of a convivial aperitif after the show reinforces the sense of community and makes the review an occasion for meeting as well as entertainment, in an authentic corner of the Rimini hinterland just a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast.
The twenty-fourth edition of Oltremisura enlivened the Francesco Rosaspina Theatre in Montescudo from January to April 2026, under the title "I Would Prefer Not To," inspired by Herman Melville's famous short story. A programme of eight events curated by the L'Attoscuro APS Association, featuring contemporary theatre, staged poetry, and new writing.
The review opened on January 11th with Roberto Latini and the staged reading "La delicatezza del poco e del niente" (The delicacy of little and nothing), dedicated to the verses of the poetess Mariangela Gualtieri. The programme continued with "Spritz" by the Baladam - B Side Company, "Esperando" by the Orizzonti Nuovi Company, "Zitti tutti!" by Denis Campitelli in the Romagnol dialect, and "Parallele sono le rette dell'amore e della morte" (The lines of love and death are parallel) by Oscar De Summa. The season concluded with "Lo sciopero delle bambine" (The girls' strike) by the Pem Habitat Teatrali company, "Ashes" by the Muta Imago Company, and, on April 26th, the collective walk "Valli sonore" (Sounding Valleys) by Tommaso Semprini Cesari.
