The name itself is a statement of intent: Oltre Finisterre - Theatre at the World's Edge. In Sasso di Castalda, a village in the Lucanian Apennines in the province of Potenza, theatre is not just something to watch but something to build together. The season, hosted at the Mariele Ventre Theatre, stems from a precise idea: to make a small village not just a performance venue, but a true production hub, where artists live, rehearse, and create in contact with the community.

A Signed and Rooted Project

The festival is conceived by Gianmarco Pepe along with Domenico Gaito and Rosanna Corleto, and is supported by the Municipality of Sasso di Castalda through resources from the PO Val d'Agri. At the heart of the project are the artistic residencies: companies that stay in the village to prepare their shows and national tours, offering the community the privilege of witnessing the birth of a theatrical work.

Shows, Workshops, and Schools

Alongside the programme of shows, the season offers free workshops for children during performances and the OFF project, which involves schools and students in direct dialogue with actors, technicians, and directors. It's a way to sow theatrical culture among new generations and to make theatre an educational and social outpost, as well as an artistic one.

Oltre Finisterre demonstrates how a municipality in the Lucanian Apennines can become a cultural laboratory with national reach. Through residencies, premieres, and meetings with artists, the season animates the winter months in Sasso di Castalda and accompanies the public from autumn to spring with an offering that intertwines artistic quality and community participation.
