The great Aglianico del Vulture festival in the heart of Venosa
The Aglianica Wine Festival is the most important event dedicated to Aglianico del Vulture, the great red wine from Basilicata that grows on the volcanic soils of Monte Vulture. Organized by the Liberovino association, the festival takes place in the historic center of Venosa, the birthplace of the poet Horace, with the evocative Pirro del Balzo Castle as its backdrop.
The heart of the event is the "Mondo Aglianico" tasting booth, which showcases the grape variety in its various territorial expressions—from Vulture to the Campanian Taurasi and Taburno—alongside other DOCs from Basilicata. The tastings are accompanied by guided seminars from major national associations like AIS and Go Wine, dedicated to Aglianico and native grape varieties.
Alongside wine, the "Officine del Gusto" (Taste Workshops) offer tastings of typical products—cheeses, cured meats, honey, oil, grappas, and craft beers—while show cooking by chefs takes place in the former church of San Domenico. The festival comes alive with street artists, the barrel race, the historical reenactment "La storia bandita" (The Banished Story), and live music, in a blend of food and wine, culture, and fun that makes Venosa the wine capital of Basilicata for a weekend.
Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Venosa offers visitors to the festival an extraordinary heritage: the Abbey of the Most Holy Trinity, the Archaeological Park, and the Aragonese Castle. Aglianica thus becomes an opportunity to combine the discovery of this great wine from Basilicata with that of a territory rich in history.
The XVI edition of the Aglianica Wine Festival is scheduled from October 3 to 5, 2026, in the historic center of Venosa, at the foot of the Pirro del Balzo Castle. Three days dedicated to Aglianico del Vulture and the great wines of the South, with tastings, seminars, gastronomy, and entertainment.
