Aglianica Wine Festival

The symbolic wine of Basilicata celebrates

The Aglianica Wine Festival is the most important event dedicated to Aglianico del Vulture, the great Lucanian red that is born on the volcanic soils of Monte Vulture. Organized by the association Liberovino, the festival takes place in the historic center of Venosa, the birthplace of the poet Horace, with the evocative Pirro del Balzo Castle as its backdrop.

Mondo Aglianico and beyond

The heart of the event is the "Mondo Aglianico" tasting counter, which showcases the grape variety in its various territorial expressions — from Vulture to the Campanian Taurasi and Taburno — alongside the other DOCs of Basilicata. The tastings are accompanied by guided seminars by major national associations such as AIS and Go Wine, dedicated to Aglianico and native grape varieties.

Taste, culture, and entertainment

Alongside the wine, the "Officine del Gusto" (Taste Workshops) offer tastings of typical products — cheeses, cured meats, honey, oil, grappas, and craft beers — while show cooking by chefs takes place in the former church of San Domenico. The festival comes alive with street artists, the barrel race, the historical re-enactment "La storia bandita" (The Banished History), and live music, in an intertwining of food and wine, culture, and fun that makes Venosa, for a weekend, the Lucanian capital of wine.

Included among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Venosa offers visitors to the festival an extraordinary heritage: the Abbey of the Most Holy Trinity, the Archaeological Park, and the Aragonese Castle. Aglianica thus becomes an opportunity to combine the discovery of great Lucanian wine with that of a territory rich in history.
