Novi Musica Festival — Concert at the Chiesa delle Ghiare

A concert in the heart of the Alessandria Monferrato

The Novi Musica Festival is a classical music and culture series promoted by the Novi Musica e Cultura Association of Novi Ligure, under the artistic direction of Maestro Maurizio Billi. The event takes place from April to December between Novi Ligure and neighboring municipalities, featuring about ten concerts, an international composition competition, and side events. Among its most evocative stops is the one hosted every year in Pozzolo Formigaro, at the Chiesa delle Ghiare, in the province of Alessandria, Piedmont.

The Chiesa delle Ghiare

The Chiesa delle Ghiare is a small sanctuary nestled in the Pozzolo countryside, chosen by the festival for its cozy atmosphere and acoustics that enhance chamber music. It is a place where, as local chroniclers have written, «sound becomes architecture»: the intimate space creates a direct and almost confidential relationship between the performers and the audience, quite different from the experience of a large theater.

The musical program

The Ghiare concert features nationally and internationally renowned ensembles and soloists every year, often from orchestras such as the RAI National Symphony Orchestra and the Teatro alla Scala. The programs range from the Viennese classical repertoire — with Mozart always present — to 19th and early 20th-century chamber music, including waltzes, operettas, and famous salon pieces.

How it works

Admission to the concert is by voluntary donation, but reservation is mandatory: seats are numbered and assigned in order of booking until capacity is reached. Priority is given to supporters of the association. It is an appointment suitable for those who love classical music in a setting outside the major circuits, in the territory of the Municipality of Pozzolo Formigaro and the province of Alessandria.
