The Carnival of the Barolo village
In the heart of the Langhe, perched on a hill dominated by its famous neo-Gothic castle, the town of Novello (Province of Cuneo, Piedmont) celebrates Carnival every year with an event that involves the entire community. The Masked Carnival, organized by the Novello Pro Loco, is one of those moments when a small village of less than a thousand inhabitants turns into an open-air party, filled with smiles, confetti, and tradition.
Two events that warm up the village
The festival spans two days, typically during the Carnival weekend. The first event is the grand evening bingo, held in the Novelab Theater Hall: a game night with great prizes that unfailingly sells out and warms up the atmosphere for Sunday.
The highlight arrives on Sunday afternoon with the masked parade, which starts from Piazza Monviso and winds through the streets of the historic center. Creative and original costumes, floats made with passion, and musical entertainment accompany young and old along the procession, ending in the square where the Pro Loco hosts a generous snack with refreshments and toasts.
A Carnival in the UNESCO Langhe heritage
Novello is part of the Langhe-Roero and Monferrato vineyard landscape, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, Barolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, and the rare Nascetta grape are produced, and the typical hospitality of the Langhe village can be felt even during the festival. Participating in the Novello Carnival means discovering the genuine soul of a Langhe town, where the party is not a show for tourists but a deeply felt event shared by the locals.

Novello Carnival — edition 2026
Il Carnevale in Maschera 2026 di Novello si è confermato un appuntamento da record per il borgo delle Langhe. Le due giornate hanno trasformato il paese in una festa diffusa, tra coriandoli, sorrisi e il calore della comunità.
La tombolata di sabato 14 febbraio, alle 20:30 nel Salone del Teatro Novelab, ha registrato il tutto esaurito, scaldando l'atmosfera in vista della domenica. Il 15 febbraio, dalle ore 14:00, la sfilata in maschera è partita da Piazza Monviso percorrendo le vie del centro, con costumi creativi e originali, carri fantasiosi e animazione musicale per tutte le età. La festa si è chiusa in piazza della Chiesa, dove la Pro Loco ha curato la distribuzione di una ricca merenda con momenti di ristoro e brindisi.

- Ritrovo finale in piazza della Chiesa con ricca merenda offerta dalla Pro Loco

Practical information — Novello Carnival
Where
Novello (CN), in the Langhe of Barolo. The bingo is held at the Novelab Theater Hall; the masked parade starts from Piazza Monviso and ends in the main square in the village center.
How to get there
By car, Novello can be reached from the Marene motorway exit (A6 Turin-Savona) or from Alba, continuing towards Barolo and Monchiero. The village is about half an hour from Alba and is located halfway between Cherasco and Dogliani. Parking is available near the center.
When
During the Carnival weekend (February or early March, depending on the year). Bingo on Saturday evening, parade on Sunday afternoon.
Costs
The masked parade and the snack in the square are free to attend. For the bingo, entry requires purchasing cards on-site.
