The evening race that lights up the streets of Tocco da Casauria
The Notturna Toccolana is the most anticipated road race of the summer in Tocco da Casauria, a village in the Pescara Valley in the province of Pescara, in the heart of Abruzzo. Organized by the ASD Tocco Runner association, the event transforms the streets and alleys of the old town into a race course illuminated by the evening lights, with start and finish lines in the central Piazza Stromei.
The program includes a 9.5 km competitive race, part of the regional Corrilabruzzo circuit, and a non-competitive run of about 4.3 km open to runners and walkers of all levels. The afternoon is dedicated to youth races for under-16s, who compete over shorter distances in the main square, making the Notturna a true celebration of sport for all ages.
The Notturna Toccolana is more than just a running competition: it is a signature event of the local summer, part of the Tocco d'Estate festival, which enlivens the town from June to September with cultural events, performances, and local traditions. The race evening concludes with a pasta party, beer party, and live music with a DJ set, creating a festive atmosphere that brings together athletes, families, and residents.
The event is promoted by ASD Tocco Runner, a historic running club in Tocco da Casauria, with the collaboration of the municipal administration and the patronage of the Abruzzo Region. Over the years, the Notturna has established itself as a cornerstone of Abruzzo's running scene, capable of attracting hundreds of participants and showcasing the Pescara Valley, nestled between the Majella National Park and the rolling countryside surrounding the village.
Tocco da Casauria is a small town in the province of Pescara known for its extra virgin olive oil, its proximity to the Abbey of San Clemente a Casauria, and a historic center that provides the ideal backdrop for this evening race. Running the Notturna means traversing the village streets in a festive atmosphere, surrounded by the cheers of the crowd and the glow of an Abruzzo summer night.
