The agri-cultural festival of the Itria Valley
Notte Verde is much more than an August festival: it is the agri-cultural festival of Cisternino, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy overlooking the Itria Valley, in the Province of Brindisi. Every year, the event explores the origins of food, raises awareness about environmental respect, and preserves the rural traditions of this corner of Puglia, nestled among trulli, dry-stone walls, and masserie.
The festival has grown edition after edition thanks to a partnership between the Urbieterre Cultural Association, CIA-Agricoltori Italiani Puglia, and various local entities, with the patronage of the Municipality of Cisternino. The core idea is simple yet powerful: to bring the bond between those who work the land and those who live in the village back to the centre, turning squares and districts into places of meeting, knowledge, and celebration.
Cisternino, awarded the Orange Flag and part of the Città Slow network, is the ideal setting for a festival that invites you to slow down. During Notte Verde, the maze of white alleys, courtyards, and viewpoints over the valley come alive until late at night, offering an authentic experience far from mass tourism. Admission to the events is traditionally free, allowing everyone to wander through the village and be surprised by an encounter, a concert, or a starry sky.
In recent years, Notte Verde has taken on a widespread dimension, involving the districts and hamlets of the Cisternino area—such as Casalini, Caranna, and Figazzano—with events dedicated to agricultural culture, food and wine, and the memory of the rural communities of the Itria Valley.
The twelfth edition of Notte Verde revolves around the theme «Stone upon stone»: stone understood as a narrative element, a material of identity, and a silent witness to the generations that built the Itria Valley, from dry-stone walls to trulli. A common thread that unites the districts and the historic centre of Cisternino.
The festival maintains its agri-cultural nature, with great attention to the districts and local productive excellence: Caranna, Casalini, and Figazzano host events dedicated to agricultural culture, food and wine, and local traditions.
The 2026 edition, the 12th, is themed «Stone upon stone» and takes place over several moments between July and August.
The detailed programme with artists and times for the August evenings will be announced by the organisers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Cisternino is located in the heart of the Itria Valley, in the Province of Brindisi. By car: SS16 or SS172 dei Trulli. By train: Cisternino station on the Ferrovie del Sud Est line (a few kilometres from the centre, connected by local shuttles). Nearest airports: Brindisi-Casale and Bari-Palese.
Events are traditionally free of charge.
The historic centre is pedestrianised: it is best to park in the outer areas and continue on foot. Comfortable shoes are recommended for the stone streets, and booking in advance is advised if you wish to stay in a trullo or masseria during the event.
