The choral festival of the Coro Biellese La Campagnola at the Church of San Vincenzo in Mottalciata
Notte di Note is the choral festival that has been enlivening the spring season for decades in Mottalciata, a small town in the Province of Biella, Piedmont. The event is organized by the Coro Biellese La Campagnola, one of the most representative ensembles in the area, and takes place in the evocative Church of San Vincenzo, on Via XVII Maggio 1944.
The festival reached its 41st edition in 2026: a milestone that reflects a community's loyalty to its musical heritage and the choir's dedication to hosting other Italian choral groups. Every year, La Campagnola invites one or more guest ensembles to share the stage, creating an evening of exchange and friendship between choirs.
Founded in 1970 out of a passion for singing and for simple, authentic things, the Coro La Campagnola took its first steps under the direction of Gigi Bertorelli. Since 1974, under the guidance of Denis Piantino and with the contribution of composer and arranger Angelo Rondon, the choir has focused its path on the Piedmontese and Biellese folk tradition, earning a place among the best ensembles in the region for the research and promotion of the traditional repertoire.
The choir's repertoire includes about two hundred and fifty pieces, ranging from folk songs of the Biella area to alpine and mountain songs. Over the years, La Campagnola has performed in Austria, France, Switzerland, England, and Spain, also participating in international competitions in Greece and Wales.
Notte di Note is not just a concert, but a meeting point that weaves together music, hospitality, and local identity. The setting of the Church of San Vincenzo, with its enveloping acoustics, is the ideal place to listen to the voices of the choirs and to rediscover a musical genre that has its roots in the life of the Piedmontese valleys and villages.
For those visiting the Biella area in spring, the festival is an opportunity to experience the choral tradition of this corner of Piedmont up close, in an evening open to everyone.
The 41st edition of Notte di Note was held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Church of San Vincenzo in Mottalciata (BI). As per tradition, the Coro Biellese La Campagnola invited guest choirs from other Italian regions, creating an evening of shared singing. Admission was free.
