An evening visit to the medieval village featuring music and stargazing, organized by FAI Chieti
Note di Stelle is an evening event organized by the FAI Chieti Delegation in the medieval village of Villamagna, a small town in the Province of Chieti, Abruzzo. The festival, now in its second edition in 2026, offers a simple yet evocative format: a cultural stroll at sunset through the streets of the historic center, live music, and, as the sky darkens, stargazing.
The highlight of the evening is the guided tour through the charming streets of the medieval village, which still preserves its characteristic corners and one of the most fascinating urban layouts in the Chieti hinterland. The ancient core of Villamagna, dating back to the early Middle Ages, is laid out in a distinctive "herringbone" (or comb) pattern, with alleys perpendicular to the main axis: a maze of views that FAI volunteers describe step by step, amidst religious memories, ancient fortifications, and the daily life of times past.
Participants are accompanied along the route by the live music of Friotto, whose performance weaves into the intimate atmosphere of the village. As night falls, the evening concludes with astronomical observation, with eyes turned toward the starry sky of Abruzzo: a moment that gives full meaning to the event's title and transforms the visit into an experience suspended between earth and sky.
Villamagna is located just a few kilometers from the Adriatic coast and the peaks of the Majella, in a position that has made it a land of vineyards and farming traditions for centuries. Already mentioned in 1059 as Villa Magna, it owes its name to the Latin roots "villa" and "magna"; today it is also known for the small and prestigious Villamagna DOC wine appellation, one of the most exclusive in Italy, dedicated to the Montepulciano grape. The village also houses Villamagna Sotterranea, a site protected by FAI, which showcases the underground spaces hidden beneath the town center.
Note di Stelle is part of the initiatives that the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (National Trust for Italy), through its Chieti Delegation, dedicates to the promotion of small villages and the cultural heritage of Abruzzo. It is an event designed for families, history enthusiasts, and curious visitors who wish to rediscover a lesser-known historic center in a unique, nocturnal, and musical setting.
The 2026 edition of Note di Stelle, the second of the event, takes place on Friday, August 8, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM in the medieval village of Villamagna (CH). The evening, organized by the FAI Chieti Delegation, offers a guided tour through the charming streets of the historic center, accompanied by the live music of Friotto and concluding with astronomical observation of the Abruzzo sky.
Friday, August 8, 2026, with meeting time starting at 7:00 PM.
