The summer music festival in Trappeto, held under the stars in Piazza Umberto I
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Non Solo Classica — Cultural Shades Music Festival is the premier summer musical event in Trappeto, a small coastal town in the Metropolitan City of Palermo overlooking the Gulf of Castellammare in Sicily. The name itself captures the event's spirit: starting from classical music to explore all its "cultural shades," from jazz and chamber music to traditional bands and international groups. Every evening, the central Piazza Umberto I turns into a theater under the stars, with concerts starting at 9:30 PM.
The festival is directed by Maestro Ambrogio D'Amico, an internationally renowned double bassist, and promoted by the Trappeto municipal administration with the patronage of the Municipality. Over the years, the event has grown to host orchestras, soloists, and ensembles from abroad, confirming its ambition to become a destination beyond the local level. The evenings are hosted by journalist Anna Cane, while collaborations with local entities, such as the Maria Santissima Annunziata parish, strengthen the festival's bond with the Trappeto community.
The lineup alternates between diverse genres and atmospheres: from the grand jazz of Sicilian orchestras to solo instrument concerts like the harmonica, from international quartets to traditional Sicilian brass bands, and even pop and swing groups. This variety is the hallmark of a festival designed, as the administration likes to repeat, "for refined musical palates," yet capable of speaking to a wide audience thanks to free admission to all events.
Part of the Trappeto Summer program, the festival is a major draw for residents and tourists visiting the town on the Gulf of Castellammare during July and August. Trappeto, also linked to the memory of Danilo Dolci's non-violent activism, offers sea, beaches, and a tradition of hospitality that provides the perfect backdrop for these musical evenings. Attending a concert in Piazza Umberto I, in the warm air of the Sicilian summer, is an authentic way to experience the atmosphere of a seaside village in the province of Palermo.
The Non Solo Classica — Cultural Shades Music Festival is a well-established summer event in Trappeto, in the province of Palermo, which has been held between late July and early August in Piazza Umberto I in recent years. At the moment, the Municipality of Trappeto has not yet announced the dates and program for the 2026 edition. It is reasonable to expect a new edition in 2026 with free evening concerts directed by Maestro Ambrogio D'Amico; the detailed program will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Concerts take place in Piazza Umberto I, in the center of Trappeto (Metropolitan City of Palermo), starting at 9:30 PM.
By car: take the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, exit at Balestrate, then follow signs to Trappeto. By train: the nearest station is Trappeto-Balestrate on the Palermo-Trapani line, a short distance from the center. The reference airport is Palermo Falcone-Borsellino in Punta Raisi.
Admission to all evenings is free.
We recommend arriving early to secure a seat in the square and combining the evening with a walk along the seafront and a seafood dinner at one of the local restaurants.
