Two days of village festivities featuring food stalls, local traditions, and live music
The Nocciano Festival, often referred to as the May Festival, is the annual event that, in mid-May, restores life and joy to the historic center of Nocciano, a small town of about 1,800 residents in the province of Pescara, Abruzzo. Organized by the Pro Loco Nocciano with the patronage of the Municipality, the event began as a community celebration, blending gastronomy, folk traditions, performances, and live music over two days designed to engage people of all ages.
Nocciano sits on a green hill at an altitude of about 300 meters, in a panoramic position between the Cigno, Pescara, and Nora valleys. On clear days, the view stretches as far as the Gran Sasso, the Majella, and the Adriatic Sea. The village, of ancient origins, is home to the De Sterlich-Aliprandi Castle, now the seat of the Museum of Abruzzo Arts, and historic churches such as those of Sant'Antonio di Padova and San Lorenzo. It is within this setting, among the alleys and squares of the center, that the Nocciano Festival takes place.
The core of the festival is the fusion of tradition and entertainment. Food stalls offer local specialties, street food, and regional products in a convivial atmosphere that invites visitors to linger and taste. A highlight is the Gara di Ceccarella, one of the most characteristic and cherished events of the festival, deeply rooted in local folk tradition. Evenings are enlivened by live music, orchestras, and concerts, while the area dedicated to children and schools makes the festival a true community moment. The event concludes with a fireworks display that illuminates the village sky.
More than just an event, the Nocciano Festival represents a moment of identity for the residents and an opportunity to introduce the village to visitors from neighboring towns in the province of Pescara and across Abruzzo. The formula, perfected over the years, alternates the taste of local cuisine, popular entertainment, and music, showcasing a community that loves to gather and welcome guests.
The 2026 edition of the Nocciano Festival, titled "May Magic", was held on Friday, May 15th, and Saturday, May 16th, organized by the Pro Loco Nocciano with the patronage of the Municipality. Two days dedicated to taste, tradition, and live music, with the village center transformed into a large open-air party.
