On January 1st, the Lungomare Nord Cristoforo Colombo in Termoli, Province of Campobasso, becomes the stage for an unmissable tradition: the New Year's Swim. Dozens of participants gather on the free beach between the Stella Marina and La Lampara establishments to dive together into the icy waters of the Adriatic, defying the cold to greet the arrival of the new year.
The Sixteenth Edition
The event, reaching its sixteenth edition in 2026, was conceived by Nicola Catenaro and Pasqualino Di Vito and has transformed over the years into an event cherished by the city. The morning includes gathering on the beach, a group photo, and then the collective plunge, followed by a celebratory toast. The Red Cross ensures safety with volunteers and an ambulance.
Courage and Community
Despite the harsh temperatures — often well below ten degrees Celsius — participation grows year by year. The New Year's Swim is now a symbol of winter in Termoli, a jovial and collective way to inaugurate the new year on the Molise coast, with the support of the municipal administration.
