Christmas market, living nativity scenes and traditions of Norcia's Christmas
When winter arrives, Norcia â the capital of the Valnerina in the province of Perugia â transforms into a small Christmas village. The Christmas of Norcia combines a market, living nativity scenes, sacred representations, and festive moments that liven up the historic center between December and Epiphany.
The heart of the event is the craft market, hosted in ten wooden chalets in the area adjacent to the San Francesco Monumental Complex. Here you can find typical products and Christmas crafts, open on festive days (hours 10:00-13:00 and 15:30-19:00). The market is organized by the Municipal Administration with Confcommercio Valnerina.
The Christmas calendar includes the Living Nativity of San Pellegrino, set up in the district of the same name, the Sacred Representation of the Nativity in the Capolaterra district, and to welcome the new year, New Year's Eve in Piazza San Benedetto, with live music and midnight toast. A series of events that tell the community spirit of Norcia and its tenacious will for rebirth after the earthquake.
For the 2026/27 holidays, Christmas in Norcia returns, with its blend of market, living nativity scenes, and traditions. The detailed program and precise dates have not yet been published and will be released by the Municipal Administration and Confcommercio Valnerina closer to the holidays.
As tradition dictates, the edition will include the craft market in wooden chalets at the San Francesco Monumental Complex, the Living Nativity of San Pellegrino, the Sacred Representation of the Nativity, and New Year's Eve in Piazza San Benedetto.
The detailed program for the 2026/27 edition will be announced closer to the holidays. The usual structure of Norcia's Christmas includes:
