The village festival that opens Cerreto's August

In Cerreto di Spoleto, in the province of Perugia, the Festa del Ciarlatano is one of the most beloved events of the summer. Organized by the Pro Cerreto Tourist Association, it takes place every year for three evenings in mid-August and focuses on two essential ingredients: the excellent cuisine of the Valnerina and live music. The village square becomes the meeting point for residents, holidaymakers, and tourists.

Flavours of the Valnerina

From 7:30 PM, the food stalls offer typical local dishes: fojata (traditional stuffed pastry), black truffle with tagliatelle and truffle-based main courses, oil and tomato bruschetta, cured meats, cheeses, and desserts. Simple, genuine cuisine that tells the gastronomic story of this corner of Umbria.

Music and dancing until late

Every evening, the festival continues with orchestras and bands — over the years, groups like the Pamela Band and Ivano Pescari Band have performed — and an open-air disco night starting late in the evening. The Festa del Ciarlatano thus serves as a popular prologue to the Festival del Ciarlatano, the street theatre festival promoted by the Municipality, which is held the following week.

When and where

The Festa del Ciarlatano is traditionally held from August 16th to 18th in the main square of the historic centre of Cerreto di Spoleto. Admission is free; you only pay for what you consume at the stalls.
