The Musigfestl of the Musikkapelle Gais

The Musigfestl is the summer festival organized by the Musikkapelle Gais EO, the brass band of the village of Gais, located in the Taufers-Ahrntal area of the Puster Valley (Bolzano province, Trentino-South Tyrol). It is a typical South Tyrolean village festival dedicated to live music, great food, and community spirit, usually held on a mid-August evening in the heart of the village.

A band with deep local roots

Founded in 1954, the Musikkapelle Gais is one of the most vibrant cultural pillars of the community. The band consists of approximately 58 musicians, supported by a youth band of about twenty trainees, totaling around eighty members. The musicians perform in traditional costume (Tracht), proudly wearing what locals call a "piece of South Tyrolean tradition." The ensemble accompanies all civic and religious events in the village, from processions to public celebrations, serving as a key symbol of Gais's identity.

Atmosphere and program

During the Musigfestl, the band performs its brass repertoire, featuring marches, polkas, waltzes, and pieces from the Alpine and Central European musical tradition. The festival is complemented by food stalls offering South Tyrolean specialties and a refreshment service with beer and local dishes, creating a cheerful atmosphere where generations meet. It is a perfect opportunity to experience the South Tyrolean band culture, which is deeply rooted in every village of the Puster Valley.
