Musicantando – Summer Musical Week of Gaby

A Musical Tradition in the Valle del Lys

In Gaby, a Walser-speaking municipality nestled in the lower Valle del Lys, in the province and Region of Valle d'Aosta, music is not just any pastime: it is a piece of collective identity. This is demonstrated by the Società Filarmonica Regina Margherita, a band founded in 1922 and named after the Queen of Italy who so loved these valleys, which has been organizing Musicantando, the village's summer music event, for over twenty years.

What is Musicantando

This is not a simple festival of concerts, but a genuine musical refinement workshop open to all. For a week, usually in the first days of July, Gaby welcomes students of all ages and levels who attend individual and group lessons led by qualified teachers.

Courses and Workshops

• Instrumental Courses: flute, clarinet, sax, horn, trumpet, low brass, percussion, and accordion;
• Introductory Workshops for the little ones: Musigiocando (up to 2 years), Musinarrando (3-5 years), and Musicantando (from 6 years);
• Evening Choral Workshop, for those who prefer voice to instrument.

The days follow an intense rhythm: lessons in the morning from 10 AM to 1 PM, lunch break, and resumption in the afternoon from 2 PM to 5 PM. At the end of the week, students perform in public concerts that liven up the village and involve the community.

An Event for the Community

Musicantando is much more than a course: it is how Gaby passes on its passion for brass bands to new generations, an opportunity to discover the charm of the Aosta Valley mountains through music, and to experience the life of a small Walser village from the inside.
