About Musica in Quota — Alpe Ad Vèl

One of the most evocative stops of Musica in Quota, the festival that blends trekking and free concerts in the mountains of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. In Caprezzo, a small village overlooking Lake Maggiore in the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, the event features a hike to Alpe Ad Vèl (930 m), on the edge of the Val Grande National Park, where an open-air concert resonates among restored mountain huts and lake views. The journey begins in the morning from the parish church, leading hikers to the alpine pasture to enjoy live music in the heart of the Piedmontese wilderness.

Musica in Quota at Alpe Ad Vèl, where the mountain becomes a stage

Among the many stops of the Musica in Quota festival, the one at Alpe Ad Vèl, above the town of Caprezzo (Verbano-Cusio-Ossola province, Piedmont), is a local favorite. The concept behind the festival is as simple as it is enchanting: bringing live music to places usually reached only by hikers, turning an alpine pasture into a natural stage. Here, the mountain is not just a backdrop, but the true protagonist of the day.

A hike to the alpine pasture

The event starts early in the morning, meeting in front of the parish church of Caprezzo. From there, the trail climbs along the Caprezzo – Tremisino – Pont – Ad Vèl route, with an elevation gain of about 500 meters and a hike of just under two hours, on a trail classified as 'E' (hiking difficulty) by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI). The destination is Alpe Ad Vèl, at an altitude of 930 meters: a cluster of restored huts overlooking Lake Maggiore, on the edge of the Val Grande National Park, the largest wilderness area in Italy.

A concert among the peaks

Once the pasture is reached, around noon, the open-air concert begins—the highlight of the day. The formula is what made the festival famous: high-quality music enjoyed while sitting on the grass, immersed in the alpine landscape, in an intimate and convivial atmosphere. Admission is completely free, as it is for all Musica in Quota events.

A historic festival in Verbano-Cusio-Ossola

Founded in 2006, Musica in Quota is organized by the Musica in Quota Association and offers a series of free concerts every summer combined with guided hikes through the alpine pastures and lakes of Upper Piedmont. The festival promotes the Ossola valleys and the Verbano-Cusio-Ossola territory, blending a passion for trekking with a love for live music, attracting thousands of enthusiasts from across the region every year.

An authentic experience in the heart of Piedmont

Walking through woods and pastures, reaching an alpine pasture overlooking Lake Maggiore, and listening to a concert in the presence of the mountains: this is the experience that the Caprezzo stop offers to residents and visitors alike. A respectful and profound way to experience the Piedmontese mountains, where the effort of the climb is rewarded by the encounter with music and an unforgettable panorama.
