On June 21st, the day of the summer solstice, Canicattini Bagni joins the Music Festival, the major national event with free admission that brings music to squares and historic centers across Italy every year. In this small town in the province of Syracuse, in the heart of the Iblei, the highlight is the concert by the Canicattini Bagni Town Band in Piazza XX Settembre, the town's true urban living room.

A band with over 150 years of history

The Canicattini Bagni Town Band is one of the most ancient and deeply rooted cultural institutions in the area: an ensemble with over a century and a half of activity, which has spanned generations while keeping the Sicilian band tradition alive. Conducted by Maestro Sebastiano Liistro and presided over by Salvatore Petruzzelli, the band is the hub of a lively music school that trains dozens of young students who then join the ranks. It is this continuity between education and performance that makes the association a cultural stronghold for the entire community.

For the Music Festival, the band offers a repertoire designed for a public square audience: marches, traditional band pieces, transcriptions of famous works, and arrangements ranging from classical music to film scores.
