The town band brings music to Piazza XX Settembre for the summer solstice
On June 21st, the day of the summer solstice, Canicattini Bagni joins the Music Festival, the major national event with free admission that brings music to squares and historic centers across Italy every year. In this small town in the province of Syracuse, in the heart of the Iblei, the highlight is the concert by the Canicattini Bagni Town Band in Piazza XX Settembre, the town's true urban living room.
The Canicattini Bagni Town Band is one of the most ancient and deeply rooted cultural institutions in the area: an ensemble with over a century and a half of activity, which has spanned generations while keeping the Sicilian band tradition alive. Conducted by Maestro Sebastiano Liistro and presided over by Salvatore Petruzzelli, the band is the hub of a lively music school that trains dozens of young students who then join the ranks. It is this continuity between education and performance that makes the association a cultural stronghold for the entire community.
For the Music Festival, the band offers a repertoire designed for a public square audience: marches, traditional band pieces, transcriptions of famous works, and arrangements ranging from classical music to film scores. The concert takes place outdoors, free of charge, and involves families, residents, and visitors in an evening of celebration that symbolically marks the beginning of summer in Canicattini.
The June 21st appointment is part of a very rich musical calendar for Canicattini Bagni, which during the summer also hosts the historic "M° Nino Cirinnà" Band Gathering and the Canicattini Jazz Festival. However, the Music Festival represents the simplest and most popular moment: no tickets, no distance between musicians and the audience, just music returning to be a shared heritage of the community.
Canicattini Bagni is a town in the province of Syracuse, in Sicily, nestled in the Iblei landscape. The historic center, with its Art Nouveau buildings and stone facades, provides a natural backdrop for an event that combines music, local identity, and Mediterranean conviviality.

The performance, free and open to all, featured the band's repertoire, confirming the ensemble's role as the musical heart of the Iblei town in the province of Syracuse. The detailed program of individual pieces was not officially released on the eve of the event.
