About Piazza Ormea Music Festival

Every June 21st, on the summer solstice, Casalotti joins the European Music Festival. Piazza Ormea transforms into an open-air stage, featuring a program that ranges from Disney soundtracks for children to disco DJ sets and local band performances. Admission is free, from late afternoon until late evening, in one of the most vibrant squares in Rome's northwest suburbs, Municipality XIII.

A neighborhood square turned into a stage

The Music Festival at Piazza Ormea is the event through which the Casalotti neighborhood, in the northwest outskirts of Rome, participates in the European Music Festival. This annual celebration, held on the summer solstice, takes musicians out of theaters and into the streets and squares across Europe. In Rome, the day involves all Municipalities with hundreds of scattered events; here, in Municipality XIII, the stage is a neighborhood square—redeveloped in the 1990s and surrounded by linden and acacia trees—that for one night fills with speakers, lights, and chairs brought from home.

A program designed for all ages

The formula for recent editions has been a continuous evening, flowing seamlessly from afternoon to night, built for an intergenerational audience. It begins while it is still light, with music aimed at families and children, and continues until 11:00 PM with danceable genres and live bands. It is a simple and effective way to bring the neighborhood together: those who bring their children at 5:00 PM often stay until the end, and the square never empties.

  • First part — musicals and animated soundtracks, with the youngest audience in the front row
  • DJ set — international disco and dance selection, the moment the square turns into a dance floor
  • Live — local bands with pop and rock repertoires, until the evening closing

Casalotti, Municipality XIII, and its neighborhood life

Casalotti is a neighborhood born during the building expansion of the 1970s along the Via di Boccea axis, at the western edge of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in Lazio. It is an area that relies heavily on its cultural associations and neighborhood committees: events like this, along with patronal feasts and summer festivals promoted by Municipality XIII, are the occasions when the social fabric shows itself and recognizes itself. Piazza Ormea, with its approximately one thousand square meters, is one of the few public gathering spaces in the neighborhood and is therefore the natural home for the festival.

The Music Festival, a European tradition

Born in France in 1982 and rapidly spreading throughout Europe, the Music Festival is celebrated on June 21st with three fundamental principles: free admission for the public, openness to every musical genre, and participation by both professionals and amateurs. In Italy, national coordination is entrusted to the AIPFM with the support of the Ministry of Culture, and the Roman editions unfold across hundreds of appointments distributed among squares, courtyards, cloisters, and parks. The edition at Piazza Ormea belongs to this widespread network: small in size, but perfectly consistent with the original spirit of the event.

Environment and atmosphere

Do not expect a large festival with barriers and backstage areas: here the atmosphere is that of a neighborhood party, informal and laid-back, where the bars and businesses on the square remain open and people stop to chat between sets. It is an ideal event for those who live in the area and for those who want to see a Rome different from the tourist circuits, made of suburbs that organize themselves to create culture. Participation has always been free.

What to know before you go

As this is an event promoted at the municipal level and carried out by local associations, the program is published with little notice, usually in the days immediately preceding June 21st, on the channels of Municipality XIII and the neighborhood's social media pages. It is therefore advisable to check the confirmation of the appointment and the final times close to the date.

2026 Music Festival in Rome

Piazza Ormea: appointment to be confirmed

At the time of our check, no official event page for Piazza Ormea had been published for 2026: the program for Municipality XIII's neighborhood evenings is indeed released only a few days in advance, often only on the social channels of the organizing associations. We recommend consulting the Municipality XIII channels for the next edition.
