The Liberi Cantores Summer Solstice Concert on the Hotel Simon terrace
Every year, around the summer solstice, the city of Aprilia, in the province of Latina, celebrates the European Music Day with a choral concert that has become a staple for the entire community. The event takes place on the scenic terrace of Hotel Simon on Via Aldo Moro, transforming a June evening into a shared celebration across generations.
The event was born from the convergence of two traditions. First, the Summer Solstice Concert, now in its twenty-third year, which the Liberi Cantores Association has hosted for over two decades as a ritual to welcome summer. Second, the European Music Day on June 21st, the grand celebration of music that brings free outdoor concerts to thousands of squares across Italy and Europe every year. In Aprilia, these two occasions merge into a single evening of song.
At the heart of the event is the Liberi Cantores Choir, conducted by Maestro Rita Nuti, which opens and closes the concert with a varied and engaging repertoire. The association, which also organizes the annual "Candlelight" Christmas concert in Aprilia, fosters a passion for choral singing and showcases local talent, from young choristers to experienced voices. Alongside the main choir, the Children's Choir of the Pascoli Comprehensive Institute, also led by Rita Nuti, takes the stage.
The evening is more than just choral singing: the program features sopranos, vocal quartets, pianists, and young winners of local school competitions, weaving together genres from classical to pop music. During the concert, the Hotel Simon terrace also hosts art exhibitions and live painting sessions by local artists, highlighting the dialogue between music and visual arts. The result is a multidisciplinary festival that reflects the participatory spirit of the European Music Day.
Free and open to all, the concert is designed to bring families from Aprilia and neighboring towns together in a relaxed evening setting. In a young city like Aprilia, founded during the Agro Pontino land reclamation in the 20th century, this event represents one of the most cherished cultural appointments of the summer, giving a voice to the community and the southern Lazio region.
The third edition of the European Music Day in Aprilia took place on Friday, June 19, 2026, starting at 7:00 PM, on the terrace of Hotel Simon on Via Aldo Moro. Organized by the Liberi Cantores Association, chaired by Katia Sartori, the edition adopted the national theme "The Voice of Places", dedicated to enhancing territories through music.
The concert featured the Liberi Cantores Choir conducted by Maestro Rita Nuti, joined by the Children's Choir of the Pascoli Comprehensive Institute, soprano Martina Paciotti, and numerous young local talents. Music and visual arts intertwined thanks to the exhibited works and live painting that accompanied the performance.
