Salento celebrates June 21st with a tribute to the film scores of Ennio Morricone
Every year, on the summer solstice, the Music Festival brings over eight hundred Italian cities to life, transforming squares, courtyards, and streets into open-air stages. Uggiano la Chiesa, a small town in lower Salento in the province of Lecce, also participates in this major national celebration thanks to the efforts of the Pro Loco of Uggiano la Chiesa and Casamassella, an association affiliated with UNPLI that has long been active in promoting the traditions of the Terra d'Otranto.
The central theme of this edition is a tribute to Maestro Ennio Morricone, one of the greatest Italian composers of all time. The evening brings back to life the iconic soundtracks that accompanied the films of Sergio Leone, Giuseppe Tornatore, and many others: from the atmosphere of the Spaghetti Western to the most intimate and poignant melodies, Morricone's musical universe comes alive in the streets of the Apulian town in a concert designed for audiences of all ages.
Alongside the cinematic scores, the program opens up to folk and ethnic sounds, in dialogue with the rich musical tradition of Salento. The Music Festival was born as a moment of sharing and meeting between different genres: professionals and amateurs play for free for the sheer pleasure of making music together, in the original spirit of the Fรชte de la Musique that unites all of Europe on June 21st.
Promoted in Italy by the National Union of Pro Loco of Italy (UNPLI), the Music Festival involves tens of thousands of artists in a single day. In Puglia, the Pro Loco animate villages and cities with widespread concerts, and Uggiano la Chiesa joins this circuit by offering an evening of high-quality music in the evocative setting of Salento, just a few kilometers from Otranto and the Adriatic coast.
Like all Music Festival initiatives, the concert in Uggiano la Chiesa is free to attend. It is an opportunity to experience the community, rediscover the town's historic center, and let yourself be carried away by the immortal notes of Ennio Morricone under the summer sky of the province of Lecce.
On Sunday, June 21, 2026, Uggiano la Chiesa participated in the national Music Festival with a tribute to Maestro Ennio Morricone. Organized by the Pro Loco of Uggiano la Chiesa and Casamassella, the concert retraced the composer's famous soundtracks, weaving them together with incursions into folk and ethnic music. The event, with free admission, began at 9:00 PM and continued late into the evening, confirming the Salento town's participation in the major June 21st event promoted by UNPLI.
