Music...Andando: Nurturing music in schools

Music...Andando is the annual musical showcase of the G. Modugno - G. Galilei Comprehensive Institute in Monopoli, an Adriatic town in the Province of Bari, Puglia. Far from a commercial festival, this is an educational and community-focused event: for one week, between late May and early June, the Aula Magna of the Galilei campus on Via Europa Libera transforms into a concert hall where students from the "G. Galilei" Middle School music program perform for families, teachers, and the local community.

A week of recitals and concerts

The review features a series of evening instrumental recitals, each dedicated to a specific family of instruments taught at the institute: piano, guitar, accordion, violin, cello, clarinet, flute, and trumpet. These performances, typically starting at 6:30 PM, showcase the students' progress, from beginners to advanced learners. The highlight is the Year-End Concert, where the school orchestra brings all instrumental classes together for a collective performance.

A nationally recognized project

Each year, Music...Andando is part of the National Review "La musica unisce la scuola" (formerly the "National Week of Music in Schools"), promoted by the Ministry of Education and Merit. Participation in this national initiative highlights the quality of the Modugno-Galilei music curriculum, which has made musical education a hallmark of its excellence, including Erasmus exchanges and international concerts.
