MuMo Festival

An indie festival born from the ground up

The MuMo Festival is the premier showcase for independent music in Monte San Giovanni Campano, a town in the province of Frosinone, located in the heart of the Ciociaria region in southern Lazio. The name reflects the spirit of the two events from which it originated: the MusicalMonte festival, a historic local event, and the more recent MeridianaIndie experience. Their union in 2023 created a formula that blends live concerts, emerging artists outside traditional circuits, and a strong connection to the local territory.

The history of the editions

The first edition took place on July 8th and 9th, 2023, at Piazzale Corte, at the foot of the ducal castle's quadrangular tower, featuring two themed evenings: one dedicated to indie pop and one to rock, the latter closed by Pierpaolo Capovilla e i Cattivi Maestri. The second edition repeated the two-day formula on July 5th and 6th, 2024, in the same setting. With the third edition on July 11th, 2025, the festival changed its home without losing its identity: the new venue became the panoramic terrace of Via Valle, still within the village, offering an open view over the valley that immediately became part of the show.

A program that bets on emerging talent

The hallmark of MuMo is its commitment to giving a stage to those who struggle to find one. The invited acts come from the Italian independent scene and, increasingly, from the Ciociaria area: in 2025, the lineup was composed exclusively of local artists, a choice the organizers championed as an act of faith in the provincial scene. Different genres alternate on stage throughout the evening, allowing the audience to transition from acoustic singer-songwriting to electronic, urban, and grunge, with a DJ set acting as the glue until late at night.

The village atmosphere

MuMo is not a massive festival for thousands of people: it is a village event, self-produced, and carried forward by a small group of friends and volunteers with limited financial resources. This is precisely its charm. The audience mingles through the streets of the historic center, among food stalls and small local crafts, and the music is enjoyed outdoors on a summer night in Ciociaria, with the silhouette of the ducal castle in the background. Admission is traditionally free, a choice consistent with the popular and educational vocation of the event.

Monte San Giovanni Campano

The town is famous above all for its ducal castle, where, according to tradition, the young Thomas Aquinas was held prisoner by his own family, who opposed his religious vocation. Today, the village is one of the most vibrant in the Frosinone area in terms of associations, with a summer calendar that complements MuMo with other popular events, from the medieval Palio of the districts to traditional feasts. Those arriving for the festival will find an entire territory to explore, between Ciociaria, local cuisine, and the hilly landscape.

What to expect

Those who choose the MuMo Festival do not come for big names but to discover something new: the band no one knows yet, the singer-songwriter on their first release, and an audience that truly listens. It is a festival to be experienced on your feet, chatting between sets, and it restores the idea of how alive Italian independent music is, even far from the big cities.
