One hundred kilometers of enduro and motorcycle touring on the Parma Apennines
The Motocavalcata delle Maestà di Varsi is one of the most cherished off-road motorcycle touring events in Emilia-Romagna. Organized by the Motoclub Valceno with the patronage of the Municipality of Varsi, the event attracts hundreds of enduro enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad to the small village of Val Ceno, in the province of Parma, every year. The name refers to the maestà, the votive shrines scattered along the ancient mule tracks of the Apennines, a testament to the popular devotion of these valleys.
The route is a off-road loop of about one hundred kilometers, divided into two large circuits with an intermediate return to the center of Varsi. The route crosses the municipalities of Varsi, Bardi, and Bore, winding through woods, trails, mule tracks, stony paths, and the most evocative panoramas of the Parma Apennines. The difficulty is medium, with some more challenging sections made optional by soft and hard variants, making the day accessible to both expert riders and amateurs.
The Motocavalcata is not a race: it is a rally that focuses on fun, sharing, and discovering the natural and gastronomic beauty of Val Ceno. In recent years, the event has attracted over three hundred participants, with motorcyclists coming from Lombardy, Veneto, Lazio, Piacenza area, Reggio Emilia, and Modena, as well as from Germany and Switzerland. Among the traditional enduro bikes, the first electric models are also starting to appear, a sign of a constantly evolving movement.
Halfway through the route, at the Rocca di Varsi, participants find a refreshment point to catch their breath between the first and second circuits. The day concludes with a convivial lunch full of local flavors, a highlight that brings together all the motorcyclists and showcases the typical products of the Emilian Apennines.
Dominated by its ancient medieval Rocca, the village of Varsi is the ideal starting point for exploring Val Ceno and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The Motocavalcata delle Maestà is now a fixed event that, every spring, enlivens the town and introduces hundreds of visitors to this authentic corner of the province of Parma.
The 2026 edition, the nineteenth, was held on Sunday, May 24, in Varsi, in the province of Parma. The Motoclub Valceno offered an off-road route of about 100 km divided into two large loops, with an intermediate return to the center of the town. The morning was characterized by a first fast-paced loop, followed by a refreshment break at the Rocca and the second loop.
Among the traditional enduro bikes, some Stark Varg electric models made their appearance, confirming an evolving movement. The day concluded with the usual convivial lunch full of typical products from the Emilian Apennines.
