About Morbegno Carnival

Three days of colour, music, and tradition: the Morbegno Carnival enlivens the historic centre of the Valtellina town with its grand masked parade, allegorical floats, and CarnevalBimbi (Kids' Carnival) dedicated to the little ones. A highly popular festival, with over a thousand participants including costumed figures and masked groups, organised by Pro Loco with sets designed by a historic Florentine workshop.

The Carnival of Bassa Valtellina

The Morbegno Carnival (Province of Sondrio) is one of the most cherished winter events in Bassa Valtellina. For three days, the town's historic centre is filled with allegorical floats, masks, music, and shows, in a celebration that involves the entire community and attracts a large audience from all over the district.

From Schools to the Grand Parade

The programme unfolds over three days: Friday is dedicated to schools, Saturday features the CarnevalBimbi at the oratory, designed for the youngest, and Sunday hosts the Grand Masked Parade that winds through the historic centre. This is the highlight, with allegorical floats, masked groups, and all the merriment of colours, music, and tradition.

A Community Organisational Machine

The Morbegno Carnival involves over 1,200 people, including participants and organisers, with dozens of groups and floats. The event is coordinated by Pro Loco Morbegno, in collaboration with the municipal administration and a historic Florentine workshop of set designers responsible for the floats' construction. The result is a high-quality popular festival, capable of uniting carnival tradition with the identity of the Morbegno community.
