The Ascoli Piceno neighborhood becomes the capital of comics
Monticelli Comics is the event dedicated to comics and pop culture that enlivens the Monticelli neighborhood of Ascoli Piceno, in the heart of the Marche region. Founded in 2023, the event has grown rapidly to become an anticipated appointment for enthusiasts, families, and young people from all over the Province of Ascoli Piceno. Its unique characteristic is precisely its neighborhood dimension: not a large, anonymous fair, but a popular and cultural celebration that centers on community, inclusion, and the desire to come together through shared passions.
The Monticelli Comics program revolves around comics but embraces the entire universe of pop culture. During the event days, there are exhibitions, meetings with comic artists, live drawing sessions, workshops, and educational activities for children. Ample space is also dedicated to the world of gaming: board game tables curated by industry players, wargames, modeling, and themed tournaments that engage both adults and children. There are also events dedicated to graphic journalism and reflections on comics as a narrative language and a tool for telling reality.
One of the aspects that distinguish Monticelli Comics is its strong social vocation. The event pays great attention to inclusion, with projects involving schools, guests from local care facilities, and young artists. The "Un fumetto per Monticelli Comics" (A Comic for Monticelli Comics) competition is the clearest example of this philosophy: a creative journey guided by professional comic artists that leads students and participants to engage with drawing and visual storytelling, with the works then exhibited to the public during the event.
Organized by the Associazione La Corolla APS, active at the Parish of Saints Simone and Giuda, Monticelli Comics takes place under the patronage of the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno and with the support of local foundations and organizations. It is an event distinct from the Ascoli Comics & Games held in the historic center: here, the protagonist is the neighborhood, with its energy and community spirit. For those visiting Ascoli Piceno, a city of art famous for the travertine of its squares, Monticelli Comics is an opportunity to discover a more popular and vibrant face of the Piceno capital.
The fourth edition of Monticelli Comics confirmed the event's winning formula: comics, games, music, and social inclusion for families and enthusiasts. All activities were free to enter in the Monticelli neighborhood of Ascoli Piceno.
The opening was entrusted, on May 30, to the preview of the Monticelli Comics Film Fest with the screening of a cartoon dedicated to Superman. On June 1 and 2, there were exhibitions, meetings with comic artists, workshops, board games, wargames, modeling, and a pirate-themed orienteering race.
