Classical and jazz music in the villages of the Monti Dauni, featuring two concerts in Volturino
The Monti Dauni Festival is one of the most well-established musical events in the hinterland of the Foggia province. Conceived and directed by Maestro Agostino Ruscillo, the festival weaves together classical music and jazz in a traveling itinerary that crosses the hilltop villages of the Monti Dauni, including Bovino, Deliceto, Sant'Agata di Puglia, Volturino, and the city of Foggia. Recognized as a festival of excellence by the Puglia Region and supported by the local network of Daunian municipalities, it offers an annual program of concerts that showcases Apulian artists and the meeting between classical tradition and contemporary languages.
In the Municipality of Volturino, a small village in the Monti Dauni in the province of Foggia (Puglia), the festival finds two charming settings. The Santuario della Serritella, a place of devotion nestled in the countryside, hosts intimate and spiritual concerts, while the Largo della Chiesa, in the town center, welcomes the public outdoors on August evenings. This dual setting perfectly captures the spirit of the event: bringing great music out of theaters and into the iconic locations of the Daunian towns.
The festival program alternates between orchestras, ensembles, and soloists, with a particular focus on vocal and instrumental jazz and projects that reinterpret the international repertoire. Alongside the main concerts, the series also curates sections dedicated to the region's musical heritage, such as cycles on the historic organs of Puglia hosted in the village churches. Each edition involves dozens of musicians and technicians, with the goal of expanding the cultural offerings of the inland areas of Daunia.
Attending a concert at the Monti Dauni Festival also means experiencing Volturino and the other hilltop villages: stone alleys, valley views, local flavors, and the typical hospitality of the Apulian hinterland. The festival, which runs throughout the heart of summer until early September, is an invitation to combine quality music with slow tourism among the Monti Dauni.
In 2026, the Monti Dauni Festival celebrates its 16th edition with a traveling program that visits the Daunian villages and Foggia. In Volturino, two concerts are on the bill: on August 5 at the Santuario della Serritella with the show "Dada โ Cabaret Voltaire" by the Micro Jazz Orchestra conducted by Roberto De Nittis, and on August 8 at the Largo della Chiesa with "Roma-New York A/R", featuring Beppe Delre and Mara De Mutiis, performing swing and great classics like "The Lady is a Tramp".
Both events are organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Volturino as part of the series directed by Maestro Agostino Ruscillo.
Volturino can be reached by car via the SS17 and the provincial roads of the Monti Dauni; the reference train station is Foggia, from where you can continue by car or local connections. The nearest airport is Gino Lisa in Foggia, followed by Bari.
Concerts at the Monti Dauni Festival are generally free of charge. For times, any reservations, and program updates, it is recommended to consult the festival's official channels.
