Four days of folk-Celtic music on the Colfiorito Plateau
The Montelago Celtic Festival is much more than a concert: it is a collective ritual that every summer transforms the Colfiorito Plateau, in the hamlet of Taverne di Serravalle di Chienti (province of Macerata, Marche), into a large temporary community dedicated to Celtic culture. Founded in 2003, it has become over the years the main folk-Celtic event in Italy and one of the most important in Europe, capable of attracting tens of thousands of people from all over the continent.
The heart of the festival is music: from Irish and Scottish folk to European balfolk, from pagan folk to folk metal, on five stages that play practically non-stop for four days. It ranges from traditional ballads with bagpipes and violins to the more powerful sounds of metal bands, in an international program that mixes big names and new proposals also selected through the European Celtic Contest, the contest dedicated to emerging folk bands.
Those who come to Montelago experience the festival in free camping, within a 54-hectare area. Surrounding the music is a packed program of academies (music, crafts, historical reenactment, nature), Celtic games and Highland Games, ceremonies around the fire, historical encampments, conferences, a cinema arena, a Tolkien-themed pavilion, children's spaces, an artisan market, and large areas dedicated to food and beer.
For the Municipality of Serravalle di Chienti and for the entire hinterland of Macerata, Montelago is an event of identity that brings an international audience and many young people to the Marche Apennines. The setting among the meadows of the karst plateau, the woods, and the horizon of the Sibillini Mountains contributes to creating that suspended atmosphere that has made the festival a cult event, to be reached with a tent, sleeping bag, and a desire to be together.
The XXIII edition of the Montelago Celtic Festival, scheduled from August 5th to 8th, 2026, offers 36 concerts on five stages and an offering that goes far beyond music: academies, Celtic games, historical encampments, artisan market, cinema, and food areas across 54 hectares of plateau. The Early Bird presale sold out in two hours, indicating the enormous anticipation surrounding this edition.
Among the headliners and confirmed names on the five stages:
The musical program unfolds on the Main Stage and other stages (including Davo's Stage, Balfolk Stage, and Arena Avalon) with practically non-stop concerts. Alongside the music: academies for music, crafts, historical reenactment, and nature, Highland Games and Celtic games, historical encampments, Tolkien pavilion, cinema, and a tent dedicated to children.
The festival takes place in Taverne di Serravalle di Chienti (MC), on the Colfiorito Plateau. By car: take the Colfiorito exit on the SS77 Val di Chienti, then follow signs for the festival area. The nearest train stations are along the line to Camerino-Foligno; arriving by car is recommended given the mountainous nature of the site.
The ticket includes access to the free camping area. The Village Resort with equipped glamping solutions is also available within the area. Alternatively, there are accommodation facilities in the nearby municipalities of the Macerata and Umbrian hinterland.
Advance tickets available on CiaoTickets; passes for 2, 3, or 4 days and daily tickets. Free entry for children under 12. Some workshops and Celtic games require a separate contribution.
