The premier trail running event in the Alto Canavese at the foot of Monte Soglio
The Monte Soglio Trail is one of the most beloved mountain running events in Piedmont. It takes place in Forno Canavese, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, nestled at the foot of Monte Soglio, the iconic mountain that gives the event its name. Originally conceived to showcase the local landscape and promote outdoor physical activity, it has grown in just a few years into a nationally and internationally recognized event, drawing over a thousand participants from dozens of countries.
The Monte Soglio Trail is not merely a sporting competition but a genuine village festival open to all. Throughout the day, Forno Canavese comes alive with a village packed with local, technical, and gastronomic exhibitors, refreshment points, and street food. As evening falls, the atmosphere heats up with live music, DJ sets, cocktail bars, and the finisher party, turning the finish line into a shared celebration for athletes, families, and local residents.
The sporting heart of the event is the "Fantastic Four," the four semi-self-sufficient competitive courses that wind through the trails and mountain pastures around Monte Soglio:
The race names, in the Piedmontese dialect, highlight the deep bond between the sport and the identity of the Canavese region.
The event places great emphasis on children and teenagers with the non-competitive Bocia Trail and Mini Trail races, designed to introduce the next generation to trail running in a safe and fun environment, alongside a non-competitive version of the Gir Vulei for those who want to experience the trail without a race bib.
Over the years, the Monte Soglio Trail has earned a prominent place on the national calendar: the Gir Lung has served as the IUTA Italian Ultra Trail Championship, and the courses award ITRA points, a recognition that confirms their technical value within the Italian and European trail running scene.
