About Monte Soglio Trail

The Monte Soglio Trail is the ultimate mountain running festival in the Alto Canavese region, held at the foot of Monte Soglio in Forno Canavese, near Turin. It is a day that blends sport, nature, and community, featuring four competitive races ranging from 16 to 73 kilometers, the Bocia Trail and Mini Trail youth races, an event village with exhibitors and street food, and evening live music and DJ sets. This internationally renowned event attracts over a thousand athletes from Italy and abroad and serves as a host for the IUTA Italian Ultra Trail Championship.

A trail in the heart of the Alto Canavese

The Monte Soglio Trail is one of the most beloved mountain running events in Piedmont. It takes place in Forno Canavese, a small town in the Metropolitan City of Turin, nestled at the foot of Monte Soglio, the iconic mountain that gives the event its name. Originally conceived to showcase the local landscape and promote outdoor physical activity, it has grown in just a few years into a nationally and internationally recognized event, drawing over a thousand participants from dozens of countries.

More than just a race: a festival for everyone

The Monte Soglio Trail is not merely a sporting competition but a genuine village festival open to all. Throughout the day, Forno Canavese comes alive with a village packed with local, technical, and gastronomic exhibitors, refreshment points, and street food. As evening falls, the atmosphere heats up with live music, DJ sets, cocktail bars, and the finisher party, turning the finish line into a shared celebration for athletes, families, and local residents.

The four courses

The sporting heart of the event is the "Fantastic Four," the four semi-self-sufficient competitive courses that wind through the trails and mountain pastures around Monte Soglio:

  • Gir Lung — 73 km with 4,200 meters of elevation gain, the ultra-trail that serves as the event's flagship challenge;
  • Gir Cürt — 44 km with 2,600 meters of elevation gain;
  • Gir dij Vintesinc — 26 km with 1,300 meters of elevation gain, passing through Colle del Canautà and the Pian Giubert Mountain Hut;
  • Gir Vulei — 16 km with 900 meters of elevation gain, a loop traversing the entire valley area of the Forno Canavese municipality.

The race names, in the Piedmontese dialect, highlight the deep bond between the sport and the identity of the Canavese region.

Space for the little ones

The event places great emphasis on children and teenagers with the non-competitive Bocia Trail and Mini Trail races, designed to introduce the next generation to trail running in a safe and fun environment, alongside a non-competitive version of the Gir Vulei for those who want to experience the trail without a race bib.

A prestigious event

Over the years, the Monte Soglio Trail has earned a prominent place on the national calendar: the Gir Lung has served as the IUTA Italian Ultra Trail Championship, and the courses award ITRA points, a recognition that confirms their technical value within the Italian and European trail running scene.
