The 'yellow' walk for International Women's Day in the hills of the Asti Monferrato
Montaldo in Giallo is a non-competitive walk held annually to mark International Women's Day in the small town of Montaldo Scarampi, located in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Monferrato region of Piedmont. The initiative was born with a dual spirit: discovering the hilly landscape on foot and celebrating women through a simple, collective, and symbolic gesture.
The event's theme is the color yellow, which evokes the mimosa flowers typical of this time of year and represents vitality, strength, and the joy of living. Participants are given a mimosa-colored event t-shirt, turning the group into a long 'yellow snake' winding through the hills.
The walk starts in front of the local post office on Via Binello and follows trails that lead from the town center through the surrounding hills. The route touches on scenic spots such as the Molisso church area towards Agliano and the Bricco Monti, before returning to the parish church and the starting point. The walk is scenic, suitable for everyone, lasts about two hours, and is highly appreciated for the natural beauty of the Monferrato hills.
Beyond the sporting and social aspects, Montaldo in Giallo carries a strong civic message. In its fourth edition, the initiative culminated in the inauguration of a red bench, installed as a permanent symbol in the fight against violence towards women: a space for memory and reflection dedicated to victims. The local Carabinieri and local associations collaborated on the initiative.
The event is open to all, not just women. Year after year, it attracts an increasing number of participants, some traveling from outside the town to share in the experience. At the end of the walk, the Pro Loco hosts a social gathering with a snack for all walkers.
Usually the Sunday closest to March 8th, starting in the early afternoon (2:30 PM).
