What is MonferROSA

MonferROSA is the spring edition of Monferraglia, the most lighthearted and beloved rally in the Monferrato hills. Organized in Cerrina Valle, a village in the municipality of Cerrina Monferrato (Alessandria province, Piedmont), this event brings together enthusiasts from all over Italy every spring, united by their passion for old single-speed 50cc mopeds and an irresistible sense of humor.

More of a philosophy than a race

Monferraglia is not a traditional competition: it is, as the organizers like to say, a true philosophy of life. The only strict rule, besides having a single-speed vehicle, is to wear a fine pair of mustaches, real or fake—a rule that applies to the many women who participate as well. Added to this are the themed costumes that change with every edition: pirates, cartoon characters, farmers, Scottish kilts, and much more bring the moped caravan to life.

The route and a typical day

The track winds for about 50 kilometers through dirt roads and rugged climbs in the Monferrato hills, often passing through neighboring towns in the Val Cerrina. The group departs around 10:00 AM from the main square of Cerrina Valle. Along the way, there are refreshment stops and, halfway through or at the end of the ride, a convivial lunch featuring Monferrato gastronomic specialties. The steepest climbs test both the machines and the riders, but the spirit of camaraderie reigns supreme: everyone is always ready to help fellow riders in trouble.

Awards and community spirit

Although it is not a race, Monferraglia still crowns a winner through quizzes about the local area and photo contests launched on Instagram with the hashtag #Monferraglia. The winner receives a customizable trophy, which is put back up for grabs the following year. The event is organized by MONFALIVE s.s.d., a non-profit amateur sports association recognized by ACSI (a CONI sports promotion body): after expenses, proceeds are donated to local associations involved in social work, medical research, and environmental protection.

An event that colors Monferrato

Between the muffled roars of small engines, fake mustaches, and a great desire to be together, MonferROSA is much more than a motor rally: it is a village festival capable of attracting thousands of curious onlookers and transforming Cerrina Valle into the cheerful heart of Monferrato for an entire weekend. An event that combines a passion for vintage mopeds, exploration of the territory, and solidarity.
