The Asti stop of the travelling festival blending singer-songwriter music with the food and wine excellence of Monferrato
Every summer, Monferrato On Stage transforms the squares of small Piedmontese villages into open-air stages, and San Marzano Oliveto is one of the most beloved stops on this travelling tour. In the heart of the province of Asti, within the Piedmont Region, this hillside town hosts a free singer-songwriter concert preceded by a food and wine area that showcases the best of the territory.
The festival was born from a simple and successful idea: to promote the Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through two of its most authentic souls: music and gastronomy. In San Marzano Oliveto, the evening begins in the late afternoon when the Pro Loco opens the food area in the square with traditional dishes prepared using local products. These are paired with tasting stalls from the Barbera d'Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium, as well as offerings from local distillers.
At nightfall, as darkness settles over the hills, the concert comes to life in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, the heart of the village. Over the years, the stage has hosted singer-songwriters and bands from the Italian and international scene, with a focus on original songwriting and creative musical fusions. Admission is always free, staying true to the popular and welcoming spirit of the event.
Monferrato On Stage is organized by the Fondazione MOS ETS and involves a network of municipalities in the provinces of Turin, Asti, and Alessandria, together with local Pro Loco associations and wine consortia. For San Marzano Oliveto, a town of a few hundred inhabitants nestled among vineyards, this stop represents a precious showcase: one night a year, the village fills with audiences arriving from all over Monferrato to listen to great music with a glass of Barbera in hand.
The 2026 stop of Monferrato On Stage in San Marzano Oliveto is scheduled for Friday, July 10, 2026, as part of the 11th edition of the festival (May 23 – August 29, 2026), organized by the Fondazione MOS ETS across the provinces of Turin, Asti, and Alessandria. The stars of the evening are Selton, a Brazilian trio that fuses pop, songwriting, and tropicália. As with every event in the festival, admission is free and the music is preceded by the food and wine area managed by the Pro Loco, with tastings from the Barbera d'Asti and Monferrato Wines Consortium.
