About Monferrato ad Alta Voce

Monferrato ad Alta Voce is a theatre, literature, and jazz festival held every June in the village of Grazzano Badoglio, in the province of Asti. Three days of readings, performances, and concerts in the evocative setting of the Abbey of Sant'Aleramo, in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Monferrato hills. Conceived and directed by Marco Pagani, the event offers free admission until capacity is reached.

A festival of words, music, and hills

Monferrato ad Alta Voce is an event that weaves together theatre, literature, and jazz music in the village of Grazzano Badoglio, a small town in the Province of Asti nestled in the Monferrato hills, a wine-growing landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Established in 2021, the festival has grown with each edition to become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Asti summer.

The voices in the spotlight

The heart of the festival lies in its readings: actors and narrators give body and breath to the pages of great authors, often accompanied by live music. Alongside the readings, there are theatrical performances, jazz concerts, comedic parodies, and literary walks through the vineyards. Each edition revolves around a theme that ties the various moments of the program together, offering the audience a unified perspective.

Evocative settings in the village

The events take place in some of the most beautiful spots in Grazzano Badoglio: the Abbey of Sant'Aleramo courtyard, the terrace behind the abbey, the village's baroque church, the former school, and the meadows surrounding the town. These are intimate, secluded settings where words and music find unique acoustics and atmosphere under the June evening sky.

Organizers

The festival is conceived and directed by actor Marco Pagani, promoted by the Municipality of Grazzano Badoglio, and produced in collaboration with the Liberi Pensatori Paul Valรฉry association of Turin. Admission to almost all events is free until capacity is reached, reflecting the festival's popular and accessible nature. It is an opportunity to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont by combining culture, great music, and the flavors of Monferrato.

Monferrato ad Alta Voce โ€” edition 2026

The sixth edition of Monferrato ad Alta Voce, titled "Once Upon a Time in America" (C'era una volta la Merica), took place from June 12 to 14, 2026, in Grazzano Badoglio. Three days dedicated to stitching together the cultural bond between Italy and America through art, music, and literature, featuring theatrical readings, jazz concerts, and great overseas authors.

The sixth edition of Monferrato ad Alta Voce was themed "Once Upon a Time in America": a journey into the deepest soul of America through its literary and musical voices, from Melville to Mark Twain, passing through the Beat Generation poets and jazz. The performances were held between the Abbey courtyard, the terrace behind the abbey, and other locations in the village of Grazzano Badoglio, in the Monferrato area of Asti.
