About Minigiraglia

The Minigiraglia - Paolo Manca Trophy is a historic sailing regatta organized by the Italian Naval League of Capraia Isola, in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago. A 42-nautical-mile offshore course leads boats from Capraia to the Giraglia rock in Corsica and back, crossing two protected marine areas. More than just a competition, it is an event that combines sporting challenge, pristine nature, and conviviality, attracting dozens of crews from all over Italy and France every spring.

An offshore regatta in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago

The Minigiraglia - Paolo Manca Trophy is one of the most beloved sailing events in the northern Tyrrhenian Sea, organized by the Capraia Isola Delegation of the Italian Naval League. It takes place in the municipality of Capraia Isola, the northernmost island of the Tuscan Archipelago, in the Province of Livorno (Tuscany). Established in 2003, the event has grown with each edition to become a staple of the spring sailing calendar, attracting dozens of boats from all over Italy and nearby Corsica every year.

The course: 42 miles between Tuscany and Corsica

The heart of the regatta is a course as fascinating as it is technical: 42 nautical miles starting from the Marina of Capraia, reaching the Giraglia rock at the northern tip of Cap Corse, and returning to the island. The route crosses two protected marine areas of great natural value, the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the Cap Corse and Agriate Marine Park, offering crews crystal-clear waters, protected seabeds, and unique panoramas between the two shores of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

An open and inclusive competition

The philosophy of the Minigiraglia is one of accessible and participatory sailing. The regatta is open to sailing vessels with an overall length of at least 8 meters and, in recent editions, also to agile mini-transats. Alongside the real-time and handicap-time rankings, numerous special prizes are awarded to celebrate the event's convivial spirit: from the women's crew to the boat that traveled the furthest, and even the youngest skipper.

The program and the Capraia Sailing Village

The event spans several days. Upon arrival in Capraia, crews participate in registration and document collection and the inauguration of the Capraia Sailing Village, the event's true land-based headquarters. After the pre-regatta briefing, the start is signaled at the first light of day; upon return, the awards ceremony and a convivial evening open to all crews follow, making the Minigiraglia not just a sporting challenge but a celebration of the sea and friendship on the island.

A tribute to Paolo Manca

The regatta is officially named after Paolo Manca, the first President of the Capraia Delegation of the Italian Naval League, in memory of his commitment to spreading the culture of the sea. The Trophy that bears his name is the most coveted recognition of the event and embodies its authentic spirit: passion for sailing, respect for the marine environment, and a bond with the island community of Capraia.

Minigiraglia — edition 2026

The 24th edition of the Minigiraglia - Paolo Manca Trophy took place from May 1st to 4th, 2026, in Capraia Isola, organized by the Capraia Delegation of the Italian Naval League, chaired by Sergio Canigiani. About fifty boats, with crews from Northern Italy and France, tackled the 42-mile course towards the Giraglia. The boat My Way, skippered by Alessio Cecchetti, triumphed.

Minigiraglia 2026: the 24th edition

The 2026 edition of the Minigiraglia - Paolo Manca Trophy, the twenty-fourth, confirmed the charm of this offshore regatta in the Tuscan Archipelago. About fifty boats set off from the Marina of Capraia at dawn on May 1st, in strong wind conditions, to tackle the 42-mile course to the Giraglia rock in Corsica and back.

Victory went to the boat My Way, skippered by Alessio Cecchetti, which finished first in both real and handicap time, winning the Paolo Manca Trophy along with the Arura and Aegylon prizes. Among the special awards were the prize for the majority-female crew (Svetly), the boat that traveled the furthest (Miràn, from Genoa), and the youngest skipper (Stefano Alemanni, on Giuca). The event, accompanied by the activities of the Capraia Sailing Village and the final awards ceremony, once again combined sport, nature, and conviviality.
