A week in yellow and the parade of flower floats in the Golfo Paradiso
In Pieve Ligure, a small town in the Golfo Paradiso in the province of Genoa, the mimosa is not just a flower: it is the symbol of an entire village. The Mimosa Festival was born in 1957, when Andrea Pagano, a member of the Confraternity of Sant'Antonio Abate, proposed a large distribution of mimosas in the town square. Since then, the festival has been repeated every year, becoming one of the most beloved floral events on the eastern Ligurian Riviera.
The festival unfolds over an entire week, the so-called Week in Yellow: workshops, screenings, competitions, mini sports Olympics, events for children, and shows liven up the village until the grand finale on Sunday.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of flower floats that starts from Piazza D'Amato, accompanied by the distribution of mimosas, shows, and food stalls. The mimosa, which blooms early here thanks to the mild climate, tells the story of a unique Liguria where winter is mild and gardens overlooking the sea anticipate spring.
The setting is the Golfo Paradiso, with a view towards the Portofino promontory: the festival is promoted by the Pro Loco of Pieve Ligure together with the Municipality and is a perfect opportunity to discover an authentic village on the Genoese Riviera outside the bathing season.
For 2026, the Mimosa Festival celebrates its 67th edition, scheduled from February 1 to 8. The Week in Yellow offers workshops, screenings, competitions, mini sports Olympics, events for children, and shows, featuring the culinary competition 'Casseruola Gialla'. Sunday, February 8, is the highlight: distribution of mimosas, parade of flower floats from Piazza D'Amato at 2:00 PM, shows, and a food stand.
